Back to Georgia Tech — Where It All Began Yesterday, I had the privilege of returning to my alma mater, the College of Computing at Georgia Tech, to speak with students about the real-world impact of AI and what it takes to lead transformation in this age of AI. See my insights below. As a former TA, it was great to be back teaching in a building that didn’t even exist when I was a student. I showed my old CS homework assignments from 25 years ago that today could be solved in seconds by AI, and how my father programmed on punch cards at Tech. That sparked some great laughs… and even better questions. A huge thank you to Pedro Guillermo Feijóo-García, Ph.D.for the invitation and for the thoughtful conversations about future collaborations. I had the chance to speak with students from two fantastic courses: 1. UI-Software Principles (HCI) — where they’re exploring natural user interfaces and building conversational agents, now with AI in the loop. 2. Intro to Software Development & Engineering — where undergrads are learning not just how to code, but how to communicate and navigate complexity in real-world systems. 💡 My talk focused on AI adoption, business transformation, and the mindset shift required to succeed. The students were sharp, curious, and deeply engaged. We had some fantastic questions about how to bridge the gap between technical innovation and business value — and how to lead with a people centric strategy in the age of AI. 📌 Key takeaway: AI is not just a tech shift — it’s a business transformation. And Georgia Tech is preparing the next generation of leaders to drive it. To the students: Stay curious. Stay grounded. I recently had the chance to learn from conversations at 𝗙𝗶𝗻𝗧𝗲𝗰𝗵 𝗦𝗼𝘂𝘁𝗵 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟱, hosted by the Technology Association of Georgia at the Woodruff Arts Center in Atlanta. The event convened fintech 𝗶𝗻𝗻𝗼𝘃𝗮𝘁𝗼𝗿𝘀, 𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗱𝗲𝗿𝘀, 𝗶𝗻𝘃𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗼𝗿𝘀, 𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗿𝘁𝘂𝗽𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘂𝗻𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗲𝘀 under the theme “𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗣𝗼𝘄𝗲𝗿 𝗼𝗳 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝗻𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻: 𝗜𝗻𝗻𝗼𝘃𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗙𝘂𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝗙𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗰𝗵.” Atlanta Mayor Andre Dickens opened with a vision for the city as “Transaction Alley” and a global hub for payments and innovation. A central thread across the event was the growing intersection of 𝗚𝗲𝗻 𝗔𝗜 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗔𝗴𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗰 𝗔𝗜, and how these 𝘁𝗲𝗰𝗵𝗻𝗼𝗹𝗼𝗴𝗶𝗲𝘀 are beginning to influence financial workflows and business models. 𝗦𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗿𝗮𝗹 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗺𝗲𝘀 surfaced across sessions and conversations:   • 𝗔𝗜 𝗮𝘀 𝗳𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗶𝗮𝗹 𝗶𝗻𝗳𝗿𝗮𝘀𝘁𝗿𝘂𝗰𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲 – becoming a core enabler of efficiency, resilience, and engagement across the value chain.   • 𝗧𝗿𝘂𝘀𝘁 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗶𝗱𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗮𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗻𝗲𝘄 𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗺𝗲𝘁𝗲𝗿 – enterprises are building layered credentialing and observability frameworks, while questions of agent identity persistence and liability come to the forefront.   • 𝗥𝗲𝘀𝗶𝗹𝗶𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗱𝗲𝗳𝗲𝗻𝘀𝗲𝘀 𝗶𝗻 𝗮𝗻 𝗔𝗜 𝗲𝗿𝗮 – adaptive, multi-signal fraud prevention is moving from optional to essential as adversaries also leverage AI.   • 𝗣𝗮𝘆𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀 𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗹𝗹𝗶𝗴𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 – AI is reshaping settlement and cross-border flows, driving efficiency while maintaining frictionless experiences for users.   • 𝗛𝘂𝗺𝗮𝗻 𝗰𝗮𝗽𝗶𝘁𝗮𝗹 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗶𝗻𝗰𝗹𝘂𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻 – preparing leaders fluent in AI systems while also expanding access through thoughtful design. It was interesting to see how fintech and AI were often described as converging into new operational approaches. Some conversations touched on 𝗔𝗴𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗰 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗺𝗲𝗿𝗰𝗲 as a lens for thinking about trust, accountability, and innovation. Dialogue on cryptocurrencies and stablecoins added yet another perspective on the multiple waves of innovation underway. Grateful for the opportunity to learn from and listen to leaders across the industry, and to connect with some during the event. Georgia Tech and its research partners have received a $20 million grant from the National Science Foundation (NSF) to build Nexus, an AI-centered supercomputer that will support researchers nationwide and help scientists tackle urgent challenges.   Georgia Tech will develop and build Nexus over the next year, with completion expected in spring 2026. Part of the grant will be used to build a high-speed system connecting Nexus at Georgia Tech to supercomputers at the National Center for Supercomputing Applications (NCSA) at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. “It’s a big deal,” said Srinivas Aluru, Regents’ professor and senior associate dean in the College of Computing. “Georgia Tech has never hosted an academic supercomputer, a machine for the nation.
