Tom Shaver shared thisGreat summary from Cassie Walizer on why enduring student success ‘practice’ needs to be embedded in ‘policy and structure.’ Thanks for the specific call-out on course schedules as part of’structure!Tom Shaver shared thisOn February 28, 2023, I joined Complete College America because I believe college changes lives. I'm a first-generation college student. I know what a degree unlocks: economic mobility, a stronger sense of self, the ability to show up differently for your family and your community. I also know how close I came to giving up after my first semester. That's what drives this work. Not completion rates as an abstraction — but what those numbers represent. Every percentage point is someone's shot at a different future. Three years in, here's what I know to be true: 💡The promise of American higher education is real. But it isn't equally accessible — and that gap is largely institutional, not individual. 💡 Practice without policy relies on champions. Champions leave, get promoted, or burn out — and the work leaves with them. Lasting change gets embedded into structure: how courses get scheduled, how students get supported, who sits at the table when decisions get made. 💡 Urgency and hope aren't opposites. Too many students are still leaving without credentials they started working toward. And too many institutions are proving every day that change is possible when the will exists. The promise of higher education — stronger families, communities, and democracy — is worth fighting for.

Learn more about AASCU's Student-Centered Course Scheduling: tinyurl.com/yc5e56su Participants explored how culture, data, and decision-making structures shape scheduling practices through readiness assessments, world café discussions, and a student-centered pressure test. Sessions led by Laura Hunter and Lena Sweyko of Ad Astra centered on using scheduling data to ask better questions and tell clearer institutional stories, while Eugene VanSickle and Steven Lloyd of the University of North Georgia grounded the work in real student pathway realities. We’re looking forward to continuing the conversation tomorrow as this cohort builds on today’s learning together. #HigherEd #StudentSuccess -

Tom Shaver shared thisCritical topic. Only 20% transfer within 4 years despite well designed transfer pathways. On average, students that do transfer take 9 semesters and earn 71.5 credits (11.5 in excess of the required 60). Our research shows that academic schedules prevent most students (57%) from getting all of the courses conflict-free that they are advised to take in their pathways. To what extent do misaligned schedules undermine these completion reforms? The report reaffirms the importance of investing in students' first (momentum) year through 'flexible scheduling.' We also know that an ongoing focus on Degree Velocity through each year of students' academic careers is needed, which requires ensuring clear Completion Paths in academic schedules.Tom Shaver shared thisMost California Community Colleges students aim to transfer to a 4-year school, but only 20% do so within 4 years. What helps them make the leap—and how can CA improve this pathway? Join us to discuss new findings on this key #HigherEd issue. Learn more and register: https://bit.ly/3WUk0aa

Tom Shaver shared thisWe are so honored that American Association of State Colleges and Universities (AASCU) and Ascendium Education Group has expanded our partnership to reach more students. As Terry Brown so eloquently states, scheduling is perhaps the most overlooked student success opportunity.Tom Shaver shared this🎓 Big News: Ad Astra Joins Forces with AASCU on Student-Centered Course Scheduling 🎓 We’re thrilled to announce that Ad Astra has been selected as the technical partner in a national initiative led by the American Association of State Colleges and Universities (AASCU). The goal? To break down one of higher education’s most overlooked yet impactful barriers to graduation: ineffective course scheduling. Backed by a $2.4 million grant from Ascendium Education Group, this collaboration will support 20 regional public universities as they redesign scheduling systems to better align with student needs, reduce conflicts, and accelerate progress toward degrees. The initiative builds on AASCU’s earlier course scheduling pilot project, which helped 11 institutions improve how courses were offered, sequenced, and staffed. Between fall 2022 and fall 2024, participating campuses saw a 12% increase in students completing first-year English and math courses and a 1.4-credit increase in average productive credits earned per student annually — an 8.1% improvement Through this partnership, Ad Astra will provide: 📊Data-driven insights into course demand and bottlenecks 🧭Guided change management support 🖥️Tools to help campuses sequence and staff courses more strategically We believe in a future where students can enroll in courses that truly fit their lives — without being held back by structural obstacles. This initiative is a powerful step toward that vision, and we’re honored to play a role.Student-Centered Course Scheduling: AASCU and Ad AstraStudent-Centered Course Scheduling: AASCU and Ad Astra

Tom Shaver shared thisCreating a student-aligned schedule is challenging but essential work. We now know from our most recent research that, for some institutions, as many as 70% of students can’t get the schedules that they are being advised to take (they can’t follow their pathways). Tom Shaver liked thisTom Shaver liked this10 years ago today, I was taken by ambulance to a hospital in Austin after a vertebral artery dissection stroke during end of Q4 at Oracle. Recovery was humbling in ways I rarely talk about. Months rebuilding strength physically… and even longer rebuilding confidence mentally. The brain heals. Confidence takes a little longer. I’m grateful for my family who showed up for me when I needed them most, for my health, and for the reminder that ordinary days are actually the big things. Funny enough, experiences like that permanently change how you see people, leadership, and risk. You realize the right people around you matter more than almost anything. 10 years later, still testing my limits one day at a time and excited to be building this next chapter with people and a company I genuinely believe in. Still rewiring. Still learning. Still grateful. As my friend Iona Holloway says: “Brave is strong with your heart switched on.” 🤍 #StrokeAwarenessMonth

Thank you to everyone who joined us for "From Mapped Drives to Modern Teams" last February 12. Big thanks to Kevin Soohoo, AEC Technology and Collaboration Strategist at Egnyte, and Rob Schenk, CSO at Intelligent Technical Solutions, for walking through how growing organizations can fix file chaos without slowing down their teams. Most leaders don't think about file systems until work starts slowing down, and by then, the damage is already done. The right file environment becomes a growth advantage. In this replay, we cover the real cost of file chaos and what "good" looks like in a modern file environment, including: - Why file systems are the core of daily work across laptops, mobile devices, and field locations - How data volumes create file bloat and productivity roadblocks when teams can't find what they need - Why your company's accumulated knowledge stays locked away until files are organized for AI Catch the full replay below to see how the right file system supports business growth. You are paying a monthly tax for software that does not fit your business. Most St. Louis HVAC and telecom companies juggle five different subscriptions. None of them talk to each other. Every time you hire a new technician, your bill goes up. You are renting tools you will never own. 2026 is the year that changes. The Build vs. Buy Report 2026 shows that 35% of enterprises are already replacing generic SaaS with custom software. St. Louis service businesses are starting to do the same. They are tired of the per-user fees. They want a digital asset they actually own. Imagine having one system built specifically for your workflow. No monthly subscriptions. No generic features you do not use. Just a tool that works exactly how you do. Is your software an expense or an asset?

Michigan winters challenge "business as usual," especially in manufacturing. Snow and ice threaten more than supply chains; they risk your IT infrastructure and production uptime. ClearPath360 focuses on proactive protection. Here is our Winter IT Resilience Checklist for Michigan manufacturers: 1. Server Room Monitoring: Extreme cold often leads to indoor overheating. Automated temperature and humidity monitoring prevents hardware failure before it starts. 2. Industrial Surge Protection: Storms cause power surges that can damage sensitive PLC and server equipment. Industrial-grade protection is your first line of defense. 3. Zero-Trust Remote Access: If staff can't reach the facility, they need secure, zero-trust access to manage systems remotely without exposing your network to threats. Our 360-degree approach integrates physical security, cybersecurity, and managed IT into one resilient infrastructure. Don’t let winter weather cause unplanned downtime. Ready to storm-proof your facility? Let’s build a resilient infrastructure together at www.clearpath360.org. #Manufacturing #Cybersecurity #MichiganBusiness #ITResilience #ClearPath360
