Patrick Joseph liked thisPatrick Joseph liked thisThey rescinded my offer. The story: After Gong, I took some time to decide what I wanted to do. Sales transformed my life, and I knew I wanted to find an opportunity that would set me up for another 5+ year run selling at an amazing company. I had a very specific check list of what I wanted, and finally, with some elbow grease, found that organization. It checked every box. I multi-threaded my way through their business, spent hours refining my final presentation, and, when I got the call immediately following my final round interview offering me a job, was ecstatic. The hiring manager told me he was beyond impressed with what I'd presented. Said I was the best final round interview to date. Wanted to get me in next week, if possible. I said, "Great - sounds amazing, let's figure out how to make this happen." Over the next few days, We agreed to a start date. We agreed to an OTE. We agreed to a signing bonus. We agreed to stock options. One thing we did was schedule a call to speak with the recruiter around company benefits, and any additional questions I might have. And I did have questions. Because what I hadn't mentioned to anyone for fear of jeopardizing the opportunity was that I was a lil' bitty bit pregnant. When I chatted with the recruiter next, I asked, casually, what their maternity leave policy was. Two days later, I received a voicemail from the hiring manager. "The company is rescinding your offer," followed by an email, "Hi Sarah, Just tried to get a hold of you live and left you a voicemail. I’m following up with an email to advise that the Company has decided to rescind its verbal offer of employment given on March 8th, 2024 and that offer is no longer open for acceptance. We wish you the best of luck in your future endeavors. Best," and yes, that is a copy + paste of the email, and yes, they really did refer to their company as "the Company." And no, I wasn't applying to work for the CIA. When I asked multiple people why, I was given the runaround. No one had a reason, just a, "Oh, sorry about that. I'll get back to you." When I shared with my inner circle what happened, they all came to the same conclusion: "It's because you asked about maternity leave. They know." I talked to a lawyer. He thought I had a case, but the effort, the likelihood of winning, and the sheer hurt I was experiencing made me ultimately say, "no." I was crushed. It was so unjust. So unfair. A whiff of pregnancy had made me "unfit" to sell. What to do next? I have ideas, energy, spunk n' spark. Not to mention a track record of success. So, I thought, fawk it. And decided to start a company. Tomorrow, I'm launching Dimmo with Troy Munson and Lucas Swartsenburg. We're building something pretty dang cool, and I'm excited to share the vision with you. Stay tuned, friends. I'm'a phoenix this shyt.

“AI-ready” starts with pipelines that actually work in production—not just models. For teams working across SQL Server and Microsoft Fabric, that often means coordinating ingestion, CDC, and orchestration across multiple systems. In our upcoming live demo, we’ll show how teams are simplifying that with CData Sync. Appreciate you sharing this perspective, Ravit!

Conserving energy is good. It’s good for the environment and it’s good for the bottom line. That’s why Windows Server has built-in power settings. But there’s a trade off. With reduced power comes reduced performance for most SQL Servers. If your SQL Server is running with the default Balanced Power Plan, you may be running with less power than you have available. Checking and changing the Windows Power Plan can help boost the performance of your SQL Server.

Improving Snowflake SQL performance is crucial for efficient data handling. One bold claim made in a recent discussion is that optimizing query design—such as specifying only the necessary columns and effectively using WHERE clauses—can drastically reduce execution time and data scanned. This approach streamlines data handling and enhances overall performance. Let's open the floor: Do you agree that optimizing query design is the most impactful strategy for boosting SQL performance in Snowflake? What other methods do you believe contribute significantly to this goal? Most Azure SQL savings aren’t “clever.” They’re boring. And they ship fast. 💸 Here’s the 15-minute playbook I use before touching anything fancy: ✅ Stop paying for idle (elastic pools / overprovisioned SKUs / forgotten dev databases) ✅ Buy the right baseline (Reserved vCores / Savings Plans where it actually fits) ✅ Cut the noisy waste (chatty queries, runaway jobs, oversized tempdb patterns) If you want the one-page checklist + quick wins tracker, check out the write-up. 🧾⚙️ Full write-up below:👇 https://lnkd.in/duxiKm_7 #Azure #AzureSQL #FinOps #CostOptimization #CloudCostManagement #SQLServer #DatabasePerformance #PlatformEngineering #CloudOps #SRE

𝗗𝗮𝘆 𝟮𝟮𝟰 — 𝗙𝗮𝗯𝗿𝗶𝗰 𝗣𝗶𝗽𝗲𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗲𝘀 𝗧𝗶𝗽: 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗿𝗼𝗹 𝗙𝗹𝗼𝘄 𝘃𝘀 𝗗𝗮𝘁𝗮 𝗙𝗹𝗼𝘄 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻 A common mistake when migrating SSIS packages into Fabric: Trying to replicate EVERYTHING exactly as it was. In Fabric: • 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗿𝗼𝗹 𝗙𝗹𝗼𝘄 𝘁𝗮𝘀𝗸𝘀 → Pipelines • 𝗗𝗮𝘁𝗮 𝗙𝗹𝗼𝘄 𝘁𝗮𝘀𝗸𝘀 → Dataflows Gen2 • 𝗧𝗿𝗮𝗻𝘀𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 → Do them in the Lakehouse (Delta) when possible The best approach? 🟦 Separate ingestion from transformation. It keeps things cleaner, easier to debug, and more scalable. Fabric isn’t SSIS 2.0 — it’s a different way of thinking about orchestration. #MicrosoftFabric #ETL #Pipelines #Dataflows #SSISMigration #DataEngineering

Stop the Database Blocking Drama with RCSI If you’ve ever had users complain about "the database being locked up" while your DBA stares menacingly at blocking sessions, you’ll appreciate this... Read Committed Snapshot Isolation (RCSI): It changes how SQL Server handles the classic "reader vs. writer" standoff. Instead of readers waiting in line (and glaring at writers like it's the checkout queue on Christmas Eve), SQL Server hands them a clean snapshot of the data. Readers do not acquire shared locks and so do not block writers, and writers do not block your readers. Everybody moves along. Of course, nothing’s free - RCSI uses tempdb for version storage, so you’ll want to make sure it’s properly configured. But when done right, RCSI is like adding extra checkout lanes at the supermarket: less waiting, less frustration, and smoother operations. Check in with your DBA to see if RCSI is worth exploring in your environment. #SQLServer #ReadCommittedSnapshotIsolation #RSCI
