“One does not need a formal commercial contact to understand why IBM chose Serge to lead the SQL engine development of the DB2 Family: he has the technical and the market vision of the company's (O/R)DBMS flagship. Simply he leads the development and actively promotes it through the customer's community: he knows how to fight Oracle back and leverage DB2 LUW's visibility above SQL Server popularity standards. He thinks applications - that's new even for IBM standards. IBM's DB2 and Information Management strategy, for the next years, is certainly in good hands. Like in the old IBM days, Serge is traveling the world on behalf of DB2 LUW - "in search of excellence".”

Oracle to DB2 Conversion Guide: Compatibility Made Easy
An IBM Redbooks publication ISBN:0738433519
In this IBM® Redbooks® publication, we describe the new DB2 Oracle Database compatibility features. The latest version of DB2® includes extensive native support for the PL/SQL procedural language, new data types, scalar functions, improved concurrency, built-in packages, OCI, SQL*Plus, and more. The latest version of DB2® includes extensive native support for the PL/SQL procedural language, new data types, scalar functions, improved concurrency, built-in packages, OCI, SQL*Plus, and more. These features dramatically improve the ease of developing applications that run on both DB2 and Oracle, and simplify the process of moving from Oracle to DB2.
In addition, IBM now provides rich tooling to simplify the enablement process, such as the highly scalable IBM Data Movement Tool for moving schema and data into DB2, and an Editor and Profiler for PL/SQL provided by way of the Optim™ Data Studio tool suite.
This Oracle to DB2 migration guide describes new technology, best practices for moving to DB2, and how to handle some common scenarios. It is now dramatically easier than ever to move to DB2 and experience the benefits of the IBM industry leading database, which offers a lower cost of ownership, ease of use, storage savings, industry leading performance, and superior customer support.
Within six weeks of DB2 9.7 becoming generally available, scores of companies had already reported very high compatibility between the code they developed for Oracle and what they were experiencing with DB2 9.7. These companies reported out-of-the-box compatibility rates between 90%-100% (measured by the percentage of statements that required modification), with typical compatibility in the high 90s. These statistics come from dozens of early adopters who shared their code and their experiences with IBM.Other authorsSee publication

System and method for multiple distinct aggregate queries
Issued US US 8005868 B2
There is disclosed a system and method for executing multiple distinct aggregate queries. In an embodiment, the method comprises: providing at least one Counting Bloom Filter for each distinct column of an input data stream; reviewing count values in the at least one Counting Bloom Filter for the existence of duplicates in each distinct column; and if necessary, using a distinct hash operator to remove duplicates from each distinct column of the input data stream, thereby removing the need for…
There is disclosed a system and method for executing multiple distinct aggregate queries. In an embodiment, the method comprises: providing at least one Counting Bloom Filter for each distinct column of an input data stream; reviewing count values in the at least one Counting Bloom Filter for the existence of duplicates in each distinct column; and if necessary, using a distinct hash operator to remove duplicates from each distinct column of the input data stream, thereby removing the need for replicating the input data stream and minimizing distinct hash operator processing. Also, the use of Counting Bloom Filters for monitoring data streams allow an early duplicate removal of the input stream of data, resulting in savings in computation time and memory resources.
