Kirt Zimmer shared thisI would love this podcast even if I wasn't friends with the guy who creates it. I've enjoyed every episode, and the last two are just epic. The one about the dark background of tipping that JJ shares here is still rattling around my brain, well over a week after I listened to it. If you enjoy discovering unknown bits of history and being inspired by people who stood strong in the face of adversity, I highly recommend checking it out.Kirt Zimmer shared thisA couple of things I've learned: - If you wait until you know what you're doing before you start, you'll never start. - And if you find something you're curious about, pull on that thread. You never know where it leads. As I've been navigating a job search, freelance work, and some pretty significant life changes, I've also been quietly working on a podcast. It's called Bad at Math. 5 episodes in, still learning as I go, and every thread I've pulled has taken me somewhere I didn't expect. Ep. 1: What actually scares us about being creative? Ep. 2: Who really invented Monopoly? Ep. 3: The street in San Francisco named for a hero you've never heard of. Ep. 4: How grammar rules are class warfare. Ep. 5: Why the tipping system is evil. And yet I still tip. I love doing this more than I ever imagined I would. The research, the writing, figuring out which way to turn my microphone... Is it perfect? Definitely not. But I love it. And I hope you do too. Bad at Math is currently on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, and Patreon. And if you're going through your own version of figuring it out as you go — I see you. https://lnkd.in/gdx_dj4i https://lnkd.in/g98gZSVP https://lnkd.in/g_yUd9RzEp. 5 - Why Tipping Sucks. Kirt Zimmer shared thisThe semiconductor industry can be a pretty intense space, so we treasure our time off to recharge. It was fun learning from my colleagues how they spend their time during Recharge Weekends. On Friday, you can find me at the beach! 😎Kirt Zimmer shared thisEvery quarter, Marvell employees around the world receive a Recharge Weekend, two extra paid days off to step away and spend time however they choose. A new article from our blog captures how a few of those employees spent their most recent Recharge, from hiking to Tumpak Sewu's thousand waterfalls in Indonesia and trekking at Uttari Betta in India, to visiting Yosemite, exploring the ancient temples of Hampi, and hiking the Inca Trail to Machu Picchu. One employee welcomed a new son during the weekend. Several also reflected on what the benefit signals about working at Marvell: that taking time to recharge is built into the culture, not just listed in a policy. Kirt Zimmer shared thisI love data visualization. This one tells a pretty wild story.Kirt Zimmer shared thisWorld's Biggest Semiconductor Companies (1990 to 2026). The global semiconductor industry is booming as AI, cloud computing, and advanced electronics drive unprecedented demand for chips. The top 3 companies alone now represent nearly $9.5 trillion in combined market cap. NVIDIA alone is valued higher than the GDP of every country except the US and China. Kirt Zimmer shared thisA few years ago, shortly after Elon Musk purchased what was then known as Twitter, I saw the network become significantly more toxic. Hate speech and literal Nazi content was abundant. I deleted my account with around 30k followers that I'd taken years to build. I don't regret it, and I wasn't the only one who bailed. But recently I've noticed that X has become much more civilized and rich with meaningful, thoughtful conversations. Perhaps the folks running the company noticed the huge drops in active users and (more importantly, to them) advertising revenue. Last week, X shared how their algorithm works and it shows that bad behavior can now come with a cost. If your account is reported, muted or blocked, it comes with a pretty heavy hit on content performance. (Unless you're Elon, I assume. Rules don't apply to oligarchs, right?) Kirt Zimmer reposted thisKirt Zimmer reposted thisThe world is building AI infrastructure at a scale never seen before. Marvell is at the heart of it — and so is our team. The culture here is genuinely rare — engineers who obsess over what's possible at the limits of physics, leaders who invest in their people, and a team that shows up with both humility and ambition. It's the kind of place where what you build actually matters. And right now, what we're building matters enormously. Marvell's mission is to move, store, process and secure the world's data faster and more reliably than anyone else. In the age of AI, that's not a tagline — it's the work. The custom silicon powering the world's largest AI clouds. The interconnect and optical technology that makes next-generation compute possible. If AI is the story of our era, Marvell is helping write the infrastructure underneath it. We are looking for four senior marketing leaders who want to be part of that — people who can take genuinely world-class technology and help the world understand why it matters. 🔹 Sr. Director, Market Intelligence & Analyst Relations https://lnkd.in/gVPwJYhN 🔹 Sr. Director, Product & Technology Marketing — Optical & Data Center Systems https://lnkd.in/gvNmmK29 🔹 Sr. Director, Product & Technology Marketing — Connectivity Components & Ecosystem https://lnkd.in/gwWMfJ9P 🔹 Sr. Director, Product & Technology Marketing — Custom Cloud & XPU Solutions https://lnkd.in/gFHix5AG If this resonates — or you know someone it will — I'd love to connect. Kirt Zimmer liked this🐘 New research on elephant communication from Earth Species Project, ElephantVoices, and Amboseli Trust for Elephants! This new paper finds that elephant choruses (when two or more elephants rumble at the same time) are coordinated group signals that encode behavioral context – not just random assortments of individuals calling discretely. It appears that they also "get in tune" with one another during some exchanges, where their rumbles reach acoustic similarity as an interaction unfolds. This is similar to how humans begin to mirror each others' pitch, volume and tempo over the course of a conversation. The authors suggests that choruses may help elephant families align their behavior during coordinated interactions. There's so much to learn from how other animals communicate and I'm in awe of this work. Big congratulations to Sara Keen, Joyce Poole and Mickey Pardo!Kirt Zimmer liked this🐘 New published research on elephant communication! 🐘 We know elephants for their mighty trumpets, but much of their vocal communication happens through low-frequency rumbles, some of which are below our human hearing range. Around 60% of these rumbles occur in overlapping choruses, where multiple elephants rumble at once. Yet these choruses have been technically difficult to analyze. In a new study published today in Scientific Reports, working with ElephantVoices and Amboseli Trust for Elephants, we found: 🎶 Choruses carry information about what elephants are doing Given only an audio recording of a chorus, our models could predict broad behavioral context, such as maintaining contact among separated elephants, comforting and reassuring calves, and coordinating movement. 🐘 Elephants “get in tune” during some interactions During some interactions associated with coordinating movement, elephants’ rumbles became more similar, a pattern known as vocal convergence. The authors suggest vocal convergence could play a role in helping families build “a plan of action.” ❓How could this help elephants in the future? Understanding how elephants communicate and coordinate their movements could help identify important habitats and movement corridors, better understand how elephants use shared landscapes, and inform approaches to human-elephant coexistence. Congrats to Dr. Sara Keen, Dr. Joyce Poole, and Dr. Mickey Pardo on this new publication! 📜 Learn more in our blog: https://lnkd.in/dSSBGWXM 📄 Read the study: https://lnkd.in/djXRx2FY 📽️ Mickey Pardo #ElephantCommunication #ElephantBehavior #AnimalCommunication #Bioacoustics #MachineLearning #Elephants

Kirt Zimmer reacted on thisKirt Zimmer reacted on this𝗧𝗵𝗿𝗲𝗲 𝗹𝗮𝘆𝗼𝗳𝗳𝘀 𝗶𝗻 𝘀𝗶𝘅 𝘆𝗲𝗮𝗿𝘀. 😩 That’s been my reality since 2020. And it's important context you won't get from glancing at my résumé or LinkedIn profile. What's truly unfortunate is that all three layoffs happened while I was doing some of the 𝗺𝗼𝘀𝘁 𝗶𝗺𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁𝗮𝗻𝘁 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸 𝗼𝗳 𝗺𝘆 𝗰𝗮𝗿𝗲𝗲𝗿. Each time, I was standing at the edge of something I'd spent months trying to get to. The answer was visible. The pieces were finally in place. I knew what came next. At Eventbrite, I argued that the events industry deserved its Rolling Stone — a media property reflecting their culture, connecting their community, and giving them reasons to come back even when they weren’t actively looking for a solution. That work was scheduled to ship when COVID hit and layoffs followed. At Hopin, I got to go further. We still built the traditional demand engine. But we also experimented with formats, programming, community, and even lifestyle content like mental health. The idea was simple: brands and audiences should have more reasons to interact than “you have a problem, we have a product.” Then the layoffs came. At Freshpaint, those ideas started becoming a system for producing content that could cascade across channels instead of dying after one publish date. → Programming strategies for podcasts and events. → Executive and subject-matter thought leadership. → Flagship/marquee content designed to create derivative assets across social, search, AEO/GEO, and other channels. Healthcare marketers are a specific, skeptical, important audience, and I was building something they actually wanted to read and listen to. I knew this because they told me to my face. And then, again, a layoff. 𝗛𝗲𝗿𝗲'𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗿𝘂𝗯: I'm not saying this to ask for sympathy. I'm saying this because I understand what my LinkedIn profile and résumé communicate. I understand the inference people draw from that — 𝗼𝗻𝗲 𝗵𝗶𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗺𝗮𝗻𝗮𝗴𝗲𝗿 𝘀𝗮𝗶𝗱 𝗶𝘁'𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘀𝗼𝗻 𝘀𝗼𝗺𝗲𝗼𝗻𝗲 𝗲𝗹𝘀𝗲 𝗯𝗲𝗮𝘁 𝗺𝗲 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗮 𝗿𝗼𝗹𝗲. 😫 And I'd rather address that directly than let it become someone's first impression of me again. Because assumptions about job-hopping might miss what I bring to the table: → 𝗜 𝗯𝘂𝗶𝗹𝗱 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗴𝗿𝗮𝗺𝘀 for B2B companies that work the way programming works, not the way publishing works. → 𝗜 𝗳𝗶𝗻𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗾𝘂𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 an industry is genuinely arguing about. → 𝗜 𝗳𝗶𝗻𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘃𝗼𝗶𝗰𝗲𝘀 worth hearing from and amplify them. → 𝗜 𝗯𝘂𝗶𝗹𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗶𝗻𝗳𝗿𝗮𝘀𝘁𝗿𝘂𝗰𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲 that gets those conversations in front of people who make decisions. So, yeah, several short tenures can look like a pattern. That’s part of my employment history and I can't hide from it. But it’s not the story of my career. If you're a recruiter or hiring manager reading this, I'd rather tell you that directly than let my profile or résumé tell a story it wasn't designed to tell.

Kirt Zimmer reacted on thisKirt Zimmer reacted on thisLast week I attended Marvell's IP Awareness Week and picked up two new patent plaques. That brings me to 45 granted U.S. patents, with more pending. The sessions were a good reminder that IP is about much more than filing patents. We talked about how our IP strategy supports the product roadmap, how AI is changing IP law, and what each of us can do to protect the ideas Marvell is built on. In data infrastructure and AI, innovation is what sets a company apart, and protecting it is part of everyone's job. To celebrate, I arranged some of my plaques to spell out IP. Seeing them together, what stands out to me is that they all come from the kind of problems our customers need solved in ML inference, from the hardware to the compiler and the full solution. Thank you to my co-inventors, our IP team and Marvell for building a culture where ideas get protected and put to use. #IPAwarenessWeek #Innovation #Patents #Marvell

Kirt Zimmer reacted on thisKirt Zimmer reacted on thisOne of the most strategically important pieces of content I created at Freshpaint was a bingo game. Actually, it was roughly 170 unique bingo cards. I called it 𝗛𝗲𝗮𝗹𝘁𝗵𝗰𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗠𝗮𝗿𝗸𝗲𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗟𝗶𝗻𝗴𝗼 𝗕𝗶𝗻𝗴𝗼. At the time, Freshpaint was repositioning itself. It had been known primarily as a privacy-compliance tool: install Freshpaint and avoid breaking HIPAA rules. At our House Call event in Miami, we introduced a much broader story. Freshpaint was building products to help healthcare marketers improve — and prove — the performance of their marketing. That was a significant narrative change. We didn’t have years of messaging reinforcing it. But we had a room full of influential healthcare marketers and one event where we needed people to actually hear what was being said onstage. And anyone who has attended a professional event knows 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗯𝗹𝗲𝗺: 𝗣𝗲𝗼𝗽𝗹𝗲 𝗺𝗮𝘆 𝗯𝗲 𝗽𝗵𝘆𝘀𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹𝗹𝘆 𝗽𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝘄𝗵𝗶𝗹𝗲 𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗮𝗹𝗹𝘆 𝗯𝘂𝗿𝗶𝗲𝗱 𝗶𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗶𝗿 𝗽𝗵𝗼𝗻𝗲𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗹𝗮𝗽𝘁𝗼𝗽𝘀. So we put bingo cards on every table. Each square contained part of the vocabulary we wanted Freshpaint to become associated with: marketing ROI, service lines, channel attribution, Google Analytics, patient portal, Meta ads and other terms central to healthcare marketing performance. Hear a term from the stage? Mark the square. Get five in a row? Shout “Bingo”—even if someone was in the middle of a sentence—and win some swag plus entry into a drawing for a larger prize. The first “Bingo” came early that morning. The attendee interrupted the session exactly as encouraged. The speakers laughed. The audience laughed. And suddenly, participating in this ridiculous little game became part of the shared experience. Can I prove Lingo Bingo increased attention? No. We didn’t run a controlled experiment. But I can tell you that 𝗜 𝘀𝗮𝘄 𝗳𝗮𝗿 𝗺𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝗽𝗲𝗼𝗽𝗹𝗲 𝗰𝗿𝗼𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗼𝗳𝗳 𝘀𝗾𝘂𝗮𝗿𝗲𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝗻 𝗱𝗶𝘀𝗮𝗽𝗽𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗼 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗶𝗿 𝗽𝗵𝗼𝗻𝗲𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗹𝗮𝗽𝘁𝗼𝗽𝘀. Days later, during the event retrospective, the head of marketing admitted he doubted the idea until he saw people listening attentively. Healthcare Marketing Lingo Bingo didn’t look like content marketing. That was the point. It was a game. It was an attention mechanism. It was an experiential asset. And it helped distribute a new brand narrative at a moment when Freshpaint urgently needed people to remember it. B2B marketers keep complaining that B2B is boring. Maybe the problem isn't the industry. Maybe it's that we keep dismissing strategically useful ideas just because they don’t resemble familiar formats.

Kirt Zimmer liked thisKirt Zimmer liked thisI just hit my 2-year anniversary at WD 🎉 and finally visited our HQ in San Jose for the 1st time!! And when I first started, I genuinely could not have predicted what today would look like.🔮 In only two years, I’ve worked through: - a major split from Sandisk - a massive rebrand from Western Digital to WD and a full look and feel makeover (shoutout to Chad Mack and Zachary Zadoo) - explosive growth due to the demand of the AI industry - an entirely new content team building from the ground up - social media strategy shift from mostly B2C to fully B2B - 50%‼️growth of our LinkedIn community thanks to that strategy shift I’m super proud of the massive growth we’ve seen on social. And we’re not just growing the followers. We’ve entirely changed the way we target our niche audiences through this shift. We’ve got much work ahead of us. I’m currently working on launching an employee advocacy program to supercharge our awareness. More to come! I’m especially grateful to Mallory Walters and Christine Chartier for their strong leadership and unending support for making social a priority at WD. 🙏✨ Here’s to the future 🚀

Most companies don’t need another marketing vendor. They need a marketing leader who connects strategy to growth. That’s where fractional CMOs step in, not as consultants or agencies, but as embedded leaders. They align brand, messaging, lead gen, and revenue. B2B marketers are constantly asked to prove ROI — but rarely given a clear definition of what success even looks like. The answer isn't better reporting. It's reframing ROI around business outcomes instead of campaign metrics, so you stop justifying your work and start leading strategy.
