This AI maturity brief will help TA leaders understand where they are in the maturity curve and help them navigate and drive the exponential growth of AI in TA that we’ll see in 2026 and beyond.Kent Button shared thisWe just surveyed nearly 100 TA leaders about AI adoption in recruiting, and the data points to one conclusion: 2026 is going to be a sea change year. Right now, only 2 AI use cases have crossed into mainstream adoption (>50%): Job Design (63%) and Job Posting (68%). But in the next 12 months, based on stated implementation plans, FIVE more features will cross that adoption threshold: → Job Posting AI: 68% → 85% → Job Design AI: 63% → 78% → AI Resume Scoring: 44% → 62% → Outbound Recruiting AI: 44% → 58% → Interview Scheduling: 37% → 55% → Candidate Rediscovery: 33% → 51% This is exactly what you'd expect to see in early-stage technology adoption—where most organizations (78.5%) are at Level 1 AI maturity, where AI drafts and recommends, but humans make all decisions. Kent Button shared thisReflecting on the past few weeks, I've experienced a myriad of emotions as I've scrolled through the LinkedIn posts from my former friends, teammates, and colleagues from VMware. Following VMware's acquisition by Broadcom late last year, the departure of many of my colleagues and team members due to role eliminations was extremely difficult. There were moments when I found it challenging to engage with LinkedIn, grappling with the flood of farewell messages, fond VMware memories, and coming to terms with the conclusion of an enriching chapter in my own career. Over the span of six remarkable years, I had the privilege of working for a company I deeply cherished, alongside individuals I greatly admired and learned from daily. Our collective dedication to a shared mission and sense of purpose drove us to achieve remarkable results together, leaving a lasting imprint on VMware and the leaders we supported. Today, I'm particularly delighted and proud to see many of you embarking on new and exciting opportunities, securing great roles at remarkable companies. To those who have transitioned to new jobs, congratulations on your achievements! To those still navigating their paths or exploring new professional avenues, I extend my sincerest well wishes to you. Real people waking up this morning asking, “What now?” If that’s you, I want you to hear this clearly: 👉 You are not starting from zero. You are starting from experience. Layoffs can shake your confidence, your identity, and your sense of direction. That’s normal. Give yourself a moment to feel it. But don’t stay there too long. Here’s where to focus next: Stabilize first, strategize second Before you rush into job boards, take care of the basics. File for unemployment. Review your benefits. Understand your runway. Clarity reduces panic. Reconnect, don’t just apply Your next opportunity is far more likely to come from a conversation than a cold application. Reach out to former colleagues, managers, clients. Keep it simple and human: “I’m exploring what’s next and would value your perspective.” Tell a clear story This is not the time for a generic resume. What problems do you solve? What results have you driven? Make it easy for someone to understand where you fit. Create momentum, even in small ways Update your LinkedIn. Share a thought. Comment on others’ posts. Schedule two conversations this week. Progress builds confidence. Remember: this is a moment, not your identity A layoff says nothing about your worth. Kent Button reacted on thisKent Button reacted on thisAfter 10+ years building SeekOut, I'm stepping down as CEO on May 4 and moving to Executive Chairman of the Board. I'm excited to welcome Sean Thompson as our next CEO. I turned 67 this past December. At some point the question changes, from "what else can I build?" to "what else should I make time for, while I still can?" I arrived in America in 1980 with a suitcase and a dream of a PhD. What followed has been anything but a straight line: a decade on the Stanford faculty, a startup in streaming media before anyone knew what streaming was, then 20 years at Microsoft. And yet the journey wasn’t done. I chose to start from zero again. No guarantees. Just a problem worth solving. SeekOut was born. Each step in my journey has been made possible because of mentors who saw more in me than I saw in myself. When I was a tenured professor at Stanford contemplating my first startup, I went to John Hennessy unsure I should do it. His answer was simple: go. If it succeeds, fantastic. If it fails, you're welcome back. Either way, you'll learn more than in any classroom. That clear message of generosity and support is the greatest gift one person can give another. I've been on the receiving end of it more times than I deserved. My partner in crime for the last decade has been my co-founder Aravind Bala. We've disagreed more times than I can count, but always because we both care deeply about our customers and building something durable and meaningful. That great people and great companies should find each other. That talent, in all its diversity and depth, should never be invisible. As recruiting enters a new phase shaped by AI, with agents augmenting recruiters and hiring managers, Sean is exactly the kind of leader SeekOut needs now. He brings experience, judgment, and a deep understanding of what makes this company special. What stood out most is how he leads, with humility, humanity, and strong values. I feel great confidence handing over SeekOut into his care. To our customers and partners: you'll be in great hands with Sean. I'll stay involved as Executive Chairman, helping where useful, but the company moves forward under Sean's leadership. To the SeekOut team: this company has been built by all of you. Different roles, different time zones, often behind the scenes, but with shared commitment and care. Thank you for everything you've given to SeekOut, and to me personally. For most of my life I've been running toward the next thing. This time, I'm not in a hurry. Tomatoes still take a season to grow. Relationships still take time to deepen. For the first time in a long time, I'm looking forward to a little open space on the calendar, and to discovering what fills it. Grateful for the journey.
