Ken Tasch posted thisAs business meetings look and feel different in the post pandemic era, here's how leaders should structure them to #MakeMeetingsWork. • Define the topic(s), issues and time limits • Reach agreement on the desired outcome. • Maintain eye contact with the speaker, even more important if the speaker is remote. Use positive body language to show that you're fully engaged in the conversation. • Don't allow interruptions. No other electronic devices allowed. • Let the speaker talk; let them finish; don't interrupt. Allow eight seconds of silence before responding. • If speaker strays off-topic don't shut them down but gently prod them back to the issue at hand. • Clarify what is heard and make sure there's agreement on what was said. • Thank the speaker for their contribution. If employees feel they are contributing, and their opinions are valued, extraordinary results will follow.

Ken Tasch shared this“Non-obvious thinking is seeing the world in a way other people don’t see it,” Bhargava said. “The secret is curating your ideas.” Curation collects ideas and presents them in a meaningful way; museum curators, for example, decide which works of art to include in an exhibit and how to present them. For his own curation process, Bhargava uses what he calls the haystack method. Rather than searching for a needle in a haystack, he gathers ‘hay’ (ideas and stories) then uses them to locate and define a ‘needle’ (a trend). “If you spend enough time gathering information, you can put the needle into the middle of the haystack,” he said.

Antti Ritvonen Spot on. A solid strategic plan, with contributions from all, should be the guide. To your point, when the plan is not working pivot. If risks were properly identified in the plan it will make course correction that much easier.

I will always remember watching a beautiful sunrise in Florida with Dave, just the two of us. He took the moment to reflect on his journey teaching and learning from others. Teaching was his passion, but lifelong learning was his North Star. More than anyone I’ve ever met, he had an uncanny ability to synthesize the enormous amounts of information he received into beneficial leadership lessons and strategies. All who knew him, and all who were fortunate to receive his wisdom, are much better at whatever they do, and better human beings. We will dearly miss Dave but his body of work lives on forever.

Ken Tasch liked thisKen Tasch liked thisIn past years, I’ve paid 0 attention to the calendar turning over — it’s always felt a bit “meh.” This year is different. Coming off a challenging year for many small and medium-sized businesses in the U.S., I feel a mix of relief, reflection and a whole new kind of pressure. I remember when my partner Claire and I started KMI. On our first day in business, we sat at an IHOP in Gainesville, Virginia. We didn’t have an office yet. We had a Wells Fargo bank book and business AMEX cards in hand. Those AMEX cards didn’t expire for five years, and I remember saying: ‘Wow, that’s wildly optimistic of them to think we’ll last five years!’ At the time, it was an amusing milestone — a small measure of trust and possibility. Of course, like a lot of small business owners, AMEX had me pledge my life, house, and savings, so there wasn’t very much $$$ risk to them. Yesterday my partner and I had a year end lunch at Passion Fish in RTC. Don’t get me wrong, I still like IHOP. Now, for companies like KMI, all the scorekeeping resets to zero. It’s the start of a new year. Past success is behind us, and the real question is what we do next. When your year goes well while others struggle, the expectation to replicate it can feel heavier than ever. BTW my current AMEX card still expires in five years.😂 Here’s to carrying the lessons from 2025 into a strong, purposeful 2026, and a renewal from AMEX.

What was just a crazy idea four years ago has now become a vital community service. Thanks to the dedicated volunteers who are making this possible every day.
