Yesterday at SoCal Tech Forum, Nadaa Taiyab shared how AI is fixing healthcare's fax problem. A cardiology practice was drowning in 20,000 faxes per month. Referrals took 2-3 weeks to process. After AI agents automated extraction and routing: clean inbox daily, referrals processed within hours. Staff response: "Take this away and we quit." The bigger picture: By 2035, 1 in 5 U.S. adults will be 65+. WHO projects a 10M healthcare worker shortfall by 2030. Healthcare is nearly 20% of GDP. Nadaa's thesis: Either AI transforms healthcare, or everyone starts eating 4-5 servings of vegetables daily. She's betting on AI. Her advice: Build for the existing workflow, not the one you imagine. Meet people where they are. And the hard truth: Ethics in AI isn't aspirational. It's evaluation and monitoring. Period. - Workflow over technology - Don't ask people to change how they work. Healthcare workflows are chaotic and every practice is different. - Labor augmentation beats substitution - Help one person serve more people. When staff won't go back to the old way, you've won. - Distribution is harder than tech - Healthcare sales are relationship-based. HIPAA compliance adds cost and complexity with every vendor. - Ethics = monitoring - Evaluation and monitoring aren't optional. Most AI failures happen when governance isn't in place.

Unpopular opinion: Digital marketing agencies should be certified by a neutral board of experts - just like CA firms or legal practices! - Too many businesses, especially small and growing ones, are getting burned by agencies that promise the world and deliver fluff - zero ROI, recycled strategies, and vanity metrics. There’s no entry barrier, no quality benchmark, no mandatory skill validation. Anyone with a Canva subscription and a few Instagram posts can start an “agency.” A certification system could help filter out the noise ensuring the people you hire know the difference between running ads and burning cash.
