Jacob Canter shared this313 Day. Detroit Day. If you know, you know. There’s a scene in 8 Mile where Eminem steps up and calls out to everyone from the 3-1-3 to put their hands up. It became a moment that captured something bigger than music, Detroit pride. I’ve spent most of my life in the Detroit metro area, and one thing about this city has always stood out: grit. (also the Detroit Lions motto since the Dan Campbell-era in 2021) Detroit has been knocked down before. But it always gets back up. Over the years we’ve watched the comeback of the Motor City. New businesses, new energy, and a community that refuses to quit. Happy Detroit Day. #313Day #Detroit #DetroitPride #MotorCity #ScoutHR

Jacob Canter shared thisGreat discussion today at the Detroit Economic Club with Dave Burritt, President & CEO of United States Steel Corporation, on the future of American manufacturing. The conversation covered the “golden share,” tariffs, geopolitical tensions, and the role steel plays in infrastructure, defense, and the global economy. One line that stood out: “It all starts with people…we have the talent to succeed.” At Scout, we see that every day supporting clients across manufacturing and the steel supply chain, helping them build the talent needed to keep American industry strong. Detroit remains at the center of America’s industrial future. Also great to see some familiar faces in the room — Rick Venet, Brett Coley, Mark Ostach, Jeffrey Watt and Matt Van Norman. #ScoutHR #DetroitEconomicClub #Manufacturing #SteelIndustry #Talent #AmericanManufacturing

Jacob Canter shared thisA friend asked me today about a new trend they are seeing called “reverse recruiting," where job seekers are paying recruiters thousands of dollars to help them land roles. That stopped me in my tracks. Traditionally, companies pay recruiters to find talent. Now we’re seeing professionals hire someone to apply to jobs for them, tailor resumes, manage outreach, and open doors. On one hand, I get it. The market is noisy. Applicant tracking systems feel like black holes. Qualified people are sending out hundreds of resumes and hearing nothing back. If you’re mid-career, unemployed, or trying to pivot industries, paying an expert to help navigate that process might feel like a smart investment. But there’s another side to this. -Is this creating a “pay-to-play” job market? -Does it widen the gap between candidates who can afford help and those who can’t? -And what does it say about how broken (or inefficient) parts of our hiring system have become? As someone who’s been in recruiting for a long time, I find the shift fascinating, and a little concerning. I’m curious: -Have you heard of “reverse recruiting”? -Would you ever pay someone to run your job search? -If you’re a hiring leader, how do you feel about candidates outsourcing the process? I’d genuinely love to hear perspectives from job seekers, recruiters, and business leaders alike. Is this innovation… or a red flag? Ryan Fleet are you guys seeing this gaining traction on that side of the pond? #ScoutHR #Recruiting #TalentAcquisition #HiringTrends #FutureOfWork #JobSearch #Leadership

Jacob Canter reacted on thisJacob Canter reacted on thisApril 1st marks 10 years cancer-free for me. A decade ago, I was in the middle of a fight that changed my life in ways I never could have imagined. Today, I’m filled with gratitude — not just for the outcome, but for the people who carried me through it. First and foremost, my wife Bethany. You were my rock every single day — steady, strong, and unwavering when I needed it most. I wouldn’t be here without you. To my boys, Matthew and Michael — you were there for me through it all. Strong, steady, and far beyond your years during a time that wasn’t easy. I’m incredibly proud of the men you have become. To my mom, Theresa, and all of my family — your support, prayers, and constant encouragement meant more than I can ever fully express. The daily and weekly calls from my siblings helped carry me through and made the time go by faster than I ever expected. To my colleagues and team — thank you for your understanding, your support, and for stepping up when I needed it. That kind of loyalty stays with you. And to the incredible doctors and staff at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota and Jacksonville, Florida — you are more than medical professionals. You are true healers. The care, skill, and compassion you showed me and my family will never be forgotten. Ten years later, I don’t take a single day for granted. To anyone currently in the fight — keep going. There will be hard days, but there is also hope. Surround yourself with people who lift you up, trust your care team, and don’t lose sight of the fact that better days are possible. Don’t stop asking questions and push your care professionals to ensure you’re getting the best treatment possible. I’m living proof. Grateful. Humbled. Blessed.

Jacob Canter liked thisJacob Canter liked thisToday was a difficult day. I visited with one of my soldiers from Iraq, SPC Lou Rose and his loving family. Lou has 4 beautiful kids and twin 3 year old grand kids. Lou was diagnosed with stage 4 esophageal cancer which spread to his brain and liver. He is terminal. He will be going on hospice. His doctors said this is 100% attributable to exposure to burn pits. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE GET YOUR CANCER SCREENINGS!!!!! You can visit the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute to apply for their Sentinel study which is a blood test that can early detect over 50 types of cancer. You can see if you are eligible for this free study here: https://lnkd.in/eiK_gTHC Also, the VA has expanded their care for toxic exposures via the PACT ACT. For more information about eligibility, please visit this website: https://lnkd.in/eBuXrVHf When I first posted about Lou, 2 other soldiers from our deployment were diagnosed with throat cancer, again 100% attributable to exposure to burn pits. I cannot stress enough the need to be proactive with your health and get checked out and screened. Veterans, please share this message far and wide and get our fellow brothers and sisters screened for cancer. I myself am a cancer survivor from Malignant Melanoma. I had to have surgery to remove it and several of my lymph nodes. This is from exposure to depleted uranium from the JDAM bombs dropped on our compound at the start of the war. Please get checked out!!! John Bartrum O'Toole Thomas Steve Lieberman #burnpits #pactact #VA #VHA #VFW #AmericanLegion #DAV

Detroit automotive supplier hiring temperature check: I am hearing a consistent theme across Tier 1 and Tier 2 suppliers right now. 2026 planning is cautious. Headcount is tighter. Every hire needs to be justified. But the roles tied to revenue are still moving. What is getting approved: Key Account Managers who can protect and grow OEM or Tier 1 relationships Sales Engineers who can translate technical value into margin, not just activity Account Managers who can stabilize launches, manage escalation, and keep programs on track What is different this cycle: The “nice to have” list is gone. Hiring teams want direct product and customer fit. The best candidates are still employed, and they are selective. Speed matters. If you wait for applicants, you will miss the people you actually want.

The first quarter of 2025 has reshaped the GovCon talent landscape. In this new era, federal workforce reductions have released highly qualified talent into the market—but identifying the right fit for GovCon roles requires industry-specific insight. As Jake outlines in his latest article for Precision Talent Solutions, GovCon firms must rethink hiring strategies: emphasize mission-driven work, offer clearance sponsorships, and reframe return-to-office as a strategic advantage. Those who adapt will lead in the evolving competition for top talent. #GovCon #Hiring #PrecisionTalentSolutions #TalentStrategy

The ROI of Hiring Veterans Beyond their leadership, adaptability, and mission-first mindset, veterans bring measurable business value to organizations—and the numbers prove it. 📊 Retention – Studies show veterans have a 3–4% higher retention rate than non-veteran hires. Lower turnover means reduced recruiting costs and stronger team continuity. 📊 Performance – In a Syracuse University study, 68% of employers rated veteran hires above average in productivity, and 63% rated them above average in teamwork. 📊 Learning Agility – Veterans are trained to master new skills quickly—whether it’s a new technology, process, or operational model—accelerating onboarding and impact. 📊 Leadership Pipeline – Many veterans leave service having already managed teams, budgets, and complex projects, making them ready for advancement sooner. When you hire a veteran, you’re not just filling a role—you’re gaining a proven professional who has delivered under pressure, thrived in diverse environments, and remains committed to achieving results. If your organization is serious about building a high-performance workforce, veterans are not just a good option—they’re a competitive advantage. #HiringVeterans #TalentAcquisition #Leadership #BusinessGrowth #Retention #VeteranEmployment #HumanCapital #RecruitmentStrategy #WorkforceDevelopment

That’s Net Promoter Score (NPS) data - straight from the employers we partner with. At RecruitMilitary, we host career fairs nationwide that connect employers with military community job seekers - last year alone, nearly 50,000 job seekers registered for our events. Here’s what our employer partners told us: ✅ 90% said the return on investment was worth it ✅ 95.1% said they’d participate again ✅ 97.5% were satisfied with candidate quality ✅ 98.6% rated their overall experience as positive Digging into the NPS categories: 🟢 47.8% of events were rated World Class 🟢 85.6% were rated Excellent or Better 🟢 100% were rated Positive 🟢 0% of events received a negative NPS score We survey job seekers too - and their feedback is just as enthusiastic. They tell us: ➡️ They love the variety of employers at our fairs ➡️ They value the networking opportunities ➡️ They praise our seamless QR code process I believe these results boil down to one thing: We listen to the people we serve. We collect feedback after every event. We analyze it. We act on it. Listening to customers isn’t a checkbox - it’s the foundation of everything we do.
