📊 Why SINR Is More Important Than RSRP in Network Quality When optimizing mobile networks, engineers often look at RSRP (signal strength) and SINR (signal quality). However, strong signal alone does not guarantee good performance—what truly matters is how clean the signal is. Let’s break it down clearly. ⸻ 🔍 1️⃣ What is RSRP? RSRP = Reference Signal Received Power It measures how strong the signal is. 📌 High RSRP = strong signal 📌 Low RSRP = weak signal But… even with strong RSRP, users can still experience slow data rates or drops if there is interference. ⸻ 🎯 2️⃣ What is SINR? Fiber operations don't usually break because of the tools. They break when data trust, workflows, and ownership stop scaling alongside the network. The signs are easy to miss at first. Data accuracy gets uneven. Field updates start lagging. Workarounds that were supposed to be temporary become part of how things actually run. By the time it feels like a problem, the pattern has usually been building for a while. We've been thinking a lot about where this happens and why. More on that this week.

We’re often asked how Quvia Grid differs from traditional network management systems. Most of those systems rely on predefined policies. Network teams define rules and the system enforces them, determining how traffic behaves when certain conditions are met as networks evolve. But as more applications and services move to the edge, the decision space becomes multidimensional. Cost, latency, bandwidth availability, network conditions, context and application requirements all need to be evaluated together to determine how traffic should be routed across available networks. Policy-based systems enforce predefined rules. They weren’t designed to continuously evaluate and optimize multidimensional trade-offs across networks in real time. Grid is.

5G rollouts don't fail because of spectrum allocation or tower density. They fail because the engineers who can configure, optimise, and secure the RAN and core network simultaneously are not available when the deployment window opens. Telecom infrastructure engineering is one of the most certification-heavy disciplines in the industry. A network engineer without current Juniper or Palo Alto credentials working on a carrier-grade deployment is a risk most operators won't formally acknowledge but quietly manage around every day. Understanding how a VoLTE Mobile Originating (MO) Call is established gives great insight into how modern LTE networks deliver high-quality voice services over IP. A VoLTE call follows four key stages inside the IMS and EPC architecture: 1️⃣ Session Initiation The VoLTE UE sends a SIP INVITE toward the IMS Core. The request passes through P-CSCF → S-CSCF, where service logic such as MMTel Application Server can be applied for telephony services. 2️⃣ QoS & Bearer Setup To guarantee voice quality, the PCRF interacts with the PGW to create a dedicated bearer (QCI 1). This ensures low latency and prioritized traffic for voice. 3️⃣ Preconditions & Alerting Once the bearer is prepared, signaling continues with SIP UPDATE / 180 Ringing, informing the calling user that the destination device is being alerted. 4️⃣ Call Completion When the callee answers, a 200 OK message is returned. After the ACK, the RTP media path is established and voice flows between both devices.
