The Ashen Horse
Amazon KDP (Kindle Direct Publishing)
See publicationI self-published a book on Amazon, it's a traditional crime thriller (for lack of a better description), the below is snippet on the back of the book:

The local authorities scramble to mount an investigation while the FBI maneuvers to take control.
Tim Burkman, head of the new FBI taskforce, seeks to find and stop the mysterious murderer. But despite his best efforts, he feels like a bystander just watching the bodies continue to stack up. Tim and his team struggle to end the slaughter, but they never know when the Ashen Horse will strike again.

A potential $10 million dollar network infrastructure project to deliver networking solutions to remote oil-field locations and remote offices. I was the Lead Network Engineer on the project, I worked closely with the Lead RF Engineer. We worked with the business stakeholders of the Mid-Continent Business Unit to develop their business requirements, needs, and current deficiencies to develop optimized network solutions. We designed wireless and networking solutions to provide business-enterprise capacity solutions to remote locations utilizing PTP & PMP wireless solutions and Cisco networking solutions.
Extensive design consideration and planning was completed to...
- Analyze current business objectives
- Analyze expenses and cost evaluations
- Analyze security requirements surrounding the PCN & SCADA networks
- Analyze & Develop security requirements for vendors
- Pursue internal RFP process to evaluate hardware vendors
- Analyze potential third-party serviced solutions
- Analyze & Develop deployment strategies
- Analyze & Develop serviceability and maintenance considerations
- Evaluate general overall ROI and cost-savings

Cisco Systems Data Center Out-of-Band Network Upgrade

I deployed 40 routers (3945Es) and 80 switches (internal to the routers) for a data center out-of-band network, involving asynchronous serial connectivity and gigabit server iLO/RiLO connections. The project included decommissioning close to 100 existing devices and upgrading to a consistent design. We also deployed a redundant pair of Nexus 5Ks to handle uplink connectivity and redundancy.
The design carefully planned for the deployment of around 8,000 IP addresses, including their DNS entries and multiple DNS aliases for redirection. We also allowed for triple path routing redundancy in the event of a two simultaneous network failures (three paths out of the network).
The design and configurations also took into consideration the existing network deployed and painstakingly documented thousands of existing connections to facilitate maintaining the existing network post upgrade, virtually uninterrupted. Extensive testing was completed prior to and post implementation to confirm the physical connections were in place, the DNS entries were in place, and the DNS aliases worked pre & post IP changes to allow for a seamless transition for the server teams.
I spent about six weeks in preparation, the final several days physically deploying the gear and testing the new setup, and then we migrated from the old network to the new network in one weekend. The newly deployed network was distinct from the existing so we minimized the lack of out-of-band access to individual servers to under 3 minutes per device (worst case) as we cascaded the change through the hundreds of racks. -
Cisco Systems San Jose Campus Wireless Upgrade
-
Upgraded 8 pairs of 6509E w/ Sup720s with WiSM1 modules (equivalent to 16 switches & 32 Cisco wireless LAN controllers) to 16 new 6509E w/ Sup2Ts with WiSM2 modules (16 controllers). The change involved configuring the 16 switches, the 16 controllers, and configuring around 1100 lightweight access points (mostly 3502i/3602i) during controller migration. The impact was to about 20 of Cisco's campus buildings in San Jose (anywhere from 5,000 to 10,000 users). We deployed one pair as a test/pilot…

We deployed the rest on a single weekend several weeks later.

We integrated and worked with other key vendors in the industry (such as InnCom, OpenTable, GBCBlue, and Xeta/Windstream) supporting in-room controls, building management systems, RF radio solutions, Business Center Solutions, and VoIP Solutions on our network.
We installed and configured a Cisco network including 4507, 3750, 2960 switches and Cisco 5508, 1262N, and 1552 wireless solutions. We deployed roughly 300 switches, two redundant wireless controllers, and around 200 wireless access points. The implementation also included the deployment of the Video-on-Demand servers, the hundreds of Set-Top-Boxes (STB), the detailed configurations of TVs and their integrated sound-bars and Blu-Ray players.

JW Marriott & Ritz Carlton at LA Live
-
A massive building on the LA sky line, the JW Marriott and Ritz Carlton are in the LA Live complex next to the Staples Center and Nokia Theatre.
We opened the hotel in February 2010 deploying a full high speed internet access (HSIA) network. We integrated with the Distributed Antenna System (DAS) for wireless deployment utilizing HP MSM760 Wireless LAN Controllers with MSM310 and MSM320 access points. A full HP switching solution was used including their 5406s and 2610s.Other creatorsSee project -

I assisted in installing eight servers for a Video on Demand (VoD) and high speed internet access (HSIA) solution. We installed over two hundred access points (Cisco 1131) and two Cisco access point controllers (WiSM Module). The core switch was a Cisco 6509-E and we installed over 1300 other Cisco switches in the hotel, I assisted in configuring and verifying all their operations (Cisco 2960s). This is a 1200 room hotel.
