Eric Berger shared thisMeaningful progress. But two things are also clear: we know kids under 13 are already on these platforms, and guardrails don’t change the fundamental nature of the product. Social is still social, with all the dynamics that come with it. Kids deserve digital experiences designed for them from the start, not just adult platforms with protections layered on top. https://lnkd.in/eWkAVDDzMeta to Pay Up to $17.1 Billion in Landmark Settlement Over Social Media Addiction ClaimsMeta to Pay Up to $17.1 Billion in Landmark Settlement Over Social Media Addiction Claims

Eric Berger reposted thisAs AI becomes a bigger part of children's learning experiences, one thing is becoming increasingly clear: what powers the AI matters. When kids are involved, trusted, age-appropriate, editorially reviewed content isn't just a differentiator—it's essential. The quality of the AI experience will always be shaped by the quality of the content behind it. See Cricket Media's post below.Eric Berger reposted thisThe biggest risk in AI-powered learning products isn’t the AI. It’s the information powering it. Trusted, age-appropriate, editorially reviewed content helps create more accurate, reliable, and meaningful learning experiences for kids. Eric Berger shared thisI'll be at Cannes Lions this year and am looking to connect with brands, platforms, creators, publishers and technology partners thinking about the future of kids and family media. I'm particularly interested in conversations about how Gen Alpha will discover content, and how brands will discover Gen Alpha, in an age of creators, algorithms, and AI. One reason I'm excited to attend this year is that I think we're at an important inflection point. Gen Alpha is the first generation growing up with creators instead of networks, algorithms instead of editors, and AI instead of search. Yet much of the advertising, measurement, and content discovery ecosystem is still built for a different era. A couple of topics I'm particularly interested in discussing: · How content intelligence and metadata prediction can improve discovery experiences for kids · How those same capabilities can help brands reach Gen Alpha through contextual advertising We've been working on some interesting developments around metadata prediction, contextual advertising, and AI-powered discovery for kids. Looking forward to sharing what we're learning and hearing how others are thinking about these same challenges. If you'll be in Cannes, let me know. #CannesLions #AI #GenAlpha #CreatorEconomy #Advertising #DigitalMedia #TrustAndSafety

Eric Berger shared thisAs AI lowers the cost of creating content, the value of trusted content rises. For kids and families, the question is no longer whether content is available. It's whether that content is high-quality, age-appropriate, engaging, and worth a child's time and attention. I believe we're seeing an important shift across the industry as reading, literacy, and deeper engagement move back to the center of the conversation. Proud of the perspective our team is sharing below.Eric Berger shared thisThe kids' media market may be rediscovering what parents and educators have always known -- reading matters! A recent Kidscreen piece points to an interesting shift across the industry. Major players are putting reading and literacy back at the center of kids' media strategy. Spinmaster LLC acquiring Lyli. Book-to-screen pipelines accelerating. Reading Rainbow returning. New literacy-focused FAST and AVOD initiatives emerging. This feels less like nostalgia and more like a market correction. For years, much of kids' media has optimized for frictionless consumption: shorter formats, algorithmic discovery, passive viewing, and endless content availability. At the same time, families, educators, and platforms are increasingly focused on attention span, the quality of engagement, and developmental impact. That is why reading looks strategically important again. Reading develops capacities that the broader media ecosystem is struggling to preserve: sustained attention, imagination, inference, curiosity, and deeper cognitive engagement. And in an AI-driven world where content becomes cheaper and more abundant, those qualities become even more valuable. The competitive advantage is shifting from simply having more content to offering: • trusted curation • high-quality IP • developmental alignment • stories and nonfiction that grow with kids • experiences that help children engage more deeply with what they consume The next generation of successful kids' media companies will not be built only around maximizing consumption. They will be built around strengthening attention, curiosity, and meaningful engagement. At Cricket Media, we believe this is exactly where kids' media needs to go. https://lnkd.in/eYrevEBj

Eric Berger shared this“Almost everywhere in America, students are performing worse than their peers were 10 years ago.” Reading scores are now down in 83% of U.S. school districts, across economic, racial, and geographic lines. In that same decade, we’ve seen a massive proliferation of screens, short-form media, and fragmented attention environments. You ever wonder why, with that backdrop, schools are now assigning fewer whole books and simplifying curriculum? As one expert in the article put it: “There’s no other way, except volume, in order to become a really proficient, fluent, avid reader.” We agree. I realize every child, family, and school situation is different. But the media environments surrounding kids are absolutely one factor influencing literacy, attention, reading volume, and cognitive habits over time.Eric Berger shared thisFor children’s media and education leaders alike, this is a wake-up call: a new Stanford University study found that reading scores are down in 83% of U.S. school districts. The decline cut across income groups, races, and regions. This is not just a classroom issue. It is a reminder that what kids read outside school matters too. The study also suggests that reading can be developed at home as well as at school, making the quality of children’s reading experiences outside the classroom especially important. Cricket Media magazines give kids rich stories, strong nonfiction, and engaging reading experiences that support knowledge, vocabulary, and curiosity. With reading outcomes under pressure, trusted kids' media still matters! Eric Berger shared thisIt’s #WorldReadAloudDay. We often talk about declining literacy as an education issue or a parenting issue. It’s also a business issue. Early reading proficiency is one of the strongest predictors of graduation, workforce readiness, and economic mobility. When literacy declines, the cost shows up later as skills gaps, higher reskilling expenses, and reduced adaptability to new technology. In an AI-driven economy, this matters even more. AI doesn’t replace reading; it amplifies it. Prompting, evaluating outputs, and synthesizing information all depend on strong comprehension and critical thinking. Reading aloud is early human-capital investment. So if you can, read aloud to a child today...it doesn't even have to be Cricket. The impact compounds far beyond the moment. For those interested, we shared 8 research-backed benefits of reading aloud below.Eric Berger shared thisToday is #WorldReadAloudDay! Reading aloud is one of the most powerful choices parents can make, and decades of research back it up. From building language and vocabulary to strengthening empathy, focus, and parent-child bonds, reading together supports a child’s growth in ways that last a lifetime. Eric Berger liked thisEric Berger liked thisI saw this headline about Sony not going to CES for the first time in 60 years. I have lots of thoughts on this. I was in the front row at the beginning of the end that led to this. Someday I may write a book. Someday it will be a MBA case study. In a nutshell the company had big silos. Within the main office in Japan and with the US divisions. They never could work together. Think about this. Sony had a music and video cell phone. Sold computers. Sold TVs and had the first internet connected TV. All of those products are gone. It was never the technology. It was the consumer services around those devices where they failed. Today, they are out of all that and more. And today they don’t have enough electronics and other products to justify CES costs. https://lnkd.in/eWG4Dr6GSony Skipping 2027 CES Trade Show After 60 Years - Media Play NewsSony Skipping 2027 CES Trade Show After 60 Years - Media Play News

Eric Berger liked thisEric Berger liked thisThis past Saturday, Highlights for Children was the focus of a CBS Saturday Morning segment. What a joy for Chantel Grant and me to sit down with Meg Oliver and the team. Every year, we get 40,000 letters and drawings from children. And, as we have done since our founding in 1946, we respond to every single one. Meg asked me a question that has stayed with me: How much does it cost Highlights to respond to every letter we receive from a child? My answer? I have no idea. And that is deliberate. Our authentic dialog with children is not something we do, it is who we are. Yes, we are a business, which comes with certain realities. But our most important reality is our purpose: We believe children are the world’s most important people, and everything we do is filtered through this belief. That we have earned and maintained the trust of families across 80 years is the most important indicator of our success. This trust is so invaluable to us that we don’t think of it as an expense. It’s an investment in the people who can build a better, more empathetic world. To us, nothing matters more than listening to, serving, and delighting children and letting them know they matter, they are important, and what they think and have to say has value. To get to share this message on CBS Saturday Morning was an honor. We are grateful to Meg and the team for opening your doors to us so that we may open our doors to your viewers. Today is a big day for Cineverse. What started as an idea over dinner at StreamTV last year led to today’s announcement: our acquisition of IndiCue, a profitable connected TV monetization platform, and another major step in building the infrastructure layer for the modern streaming economy. IndiCue brings a powerful monetization engine into the Cineverse ecosystem. Combined with Giant Worldwide and Matchpoint, we now connect content onboarding, preparation, distribution, performance data, and revenue optimization into a single, unified system. That gives studios, platforms, and rights holders a more efficient way to launch, manage, and monetize content across FAST, AVOD, and CTV, with the automation, visibility, and scalability the industry has been missing. Our tenent is simple: It's for operators, built by operators. This is about building high-margin, recurring, technology-driven infrastructure that sits at the center of how streaming actually operates. I’ve gotten to know the IndiCue team as some of the most innovative and forward-thinking operators in the business, and we’re excited to build with them. Congrats and welcome to Nicholas Frazee, John Marchesini, Yuriy Gorokhov, and the rest of the IndiCue team. I also want to thank Gary Loffredo, Ximena Salazar-Hanna, MBA, Micahel McHugh, Mark Lindsey, CPA, and everyone else who was a part of this journey. https://lnkd.in/eNY_5TJD

A stat that should keep every studio exec awake this quarter: AI-generated vertical series convert at 23.6%. Live-action scripted series convert at 23.9%! I've been talking to a lot of operators about verticals and microdramas over the last few months, and the model keeps evolving. A team that really seems to understand vertical's potential, how to differentiate, and how to create an IP flywheel is HOLYWATER TECH, profiled this week on Variety's Strictly Business podcast with co-CEO bogdan nesvit. What they're doing borrows straight from the Alloy Entertainment playbook: publish the books, or license the book IP, to test story concepts before spending real production dollars. Alloy did it for Gossip Girl, Pretty Little Liars, The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants - cheap, fast IP validation before the studio bet. Holywater is running the same play with two testing surfaces: Books, and AI-generated shorts on My Muse. They see what resonates, extend the winners, then spend against proven IP for scripted microdrama with real actors on My Drama. And you can be sure this IP will further extend into television series, movies and podcasts in success. That's an IP flywheel - not just a content strategy. And when the top of the funnel is AI-generated content that converts nearly as well as live-action, the cost of testing collapses. The Fox Entertainment investment is smart. But the real leverage hasn't been captured yet. Acquisition costs in this space are punishing as paid social drives roughly three-quarters of microdrama discovery, and CACs are climbing. The unlock is wrapping Holywater into the broader Fox portfolio: Fox One as a engagement tool outside of prime time, Tubi as an ad-supported entry point, and Roku as a 10 foot front porch; this will move CAC in the right direction. Rob Wade and team have the pieces. If Fox pulls that off, this stops being an interesting bet and becomes a template. There are plenty more interesting stats in the podcast. You can also download the report, co-published with Owl & Co. Link in the comments. More on the other models operators are running, and some of the gaps, in the coming weeks. https://lnkd.in/enveXS2N

#RecordedMusic #Streaming #RIAA “…WASHINGTON, DC (March 16, 2026) – The Recording Industry Association of America® (RIAA) today released its 2025 Year-End Recorded Music Revenue Report, which reported that #US wholesale annual revenue achieved a record high of $11.5 billion. Fostered by #labels’ commitment to using technological innovation to deepen the connection between #artists and #fans, streaming is an important part of industry revenues that also creates pathways to new formats and experiences. The US remains the world’s largest paid subscription market with 106.5 million accounts generating $6.4 billion in revenue. Premium paid subscription revenues grew by 6.8% to $5.88 billion. That sustained growth is enabling deeper investment, experimentation and agility to make the most of emerging opportunities. Additionally, US vinyl sales grew for a 19th consecutive year, representing nearly 50% of the format’s global value. “Fans are consuming music from the artists they love in more ways than ever, and that passion is reflected in today’s report. 2025 reveals a strong and stablemusic economy resulting from committed label investment and identification of new spaces to expand artists’ #creativity…” Read the article for more: #MusicRoyalties #Music #MusicBusiness #Musica #MusicIndustry #Musique #Musik #MusicBiz #CreatorEconomy #CreatorsRights #RightHolders #MusicRights #Vinyl #Digital

Interesting piece about the BBC expanding onto YouTube and a useful reality check for broadcasters and producers chasing YouTube monetization. At markets like MIPCOM or MIP London, YouTube is everywhere, encouraging broadcasters and producers to come onto the platform. The narrative often sounds like there’s a big monetisation opportunity. But the BBC itself says there is no major commercial upside expected. That matches what many of us see in practice. I met quite a few producers in London, hoping YouTube revenue could help offset production budgets or finance another season. In most cases, the math simply doesn’t work. Of course, there are a couple of success stories that I myself use in my pitch, but they’re usually shows designed and crafted specifically for YouTube, not traditional TV content uploaded after the fact. To be fair, YouTube never promises guaranteed revenue, so for broadcasters today, it’s better treated as audience reach with potential upside, not a reliable income stream. https://lnkd.in/egrzmZ3y

Warner Bros. Discovery isn’t the story. The media operating system is. • This showdown is a fight between theatrical preservation and streaming sovereignty. • A Netflix-WBD outcome likely accelerates the fastest collapse of U.S. syndication economics in decades. • When syndication weakens, local stations and cable ad models lose their last durable cash engine. • The hidden casualty is ecosystem diversity: WBD has supported content breadth across FAST and multi-platform mixes. • A Netflix absorption could compress that breadth into a single-platform gravity well. • If Paramount wins: three-horse era (Netflix–Disney+–Paramount+). • If Netflix wins: one-strong, one-mid, two-weak (Netflix 1-strong, Prime /Disney+ 2-mid, Peacock/Paramount+ 2-weak). • For Korea/Asia, a Netflix-WBD deal may tighten regional rights and incentivize global-slate efficiency over local optionality. This is less about ownership and more about what media pluralism still looks like after consolidation.

Curation is king, even at a platform level it seems! Interesting to see this news today. As IFE moves to more branded channels and an ever-expanding supplier base is this the future of IFE and CSPs? It's certainly useful to have a centralized provider that manages the overall experience. Pulling out the top new releases to the home page, managing centralised advertising, consistant branding, images & metadata, bringing in new and regional suppliers, games etc etc. Dare I say some origional and exclsuive content too - lets start with 'Howdy'!
