Douglas Chrystall shared thisOpenAI Is a Destroyer of Companies — But It’s Now in the Fight of Its Life OpenAI is tearing through industries. But here’s the part we rarely say out loud: OpenAI itself might be the most vulnerable player in the entire AI race. Every founder knows the one question investors never stop asking: “Where is your moat?” For a while, capital looked like a moat. That illusion didn’t last. DeepSeek proved that money isn’t the barrier many assumed it to be. AI is open. The research is open. Small, specialised models are becoming powerful enough to run on laptops and edge devices. In one of my own projects, we’ve already moved away from server-side AI calls. The shift is happening quietly, but it’s happening fast. OpenAI has always known the model alone wouldn’t be enough, which is why they tried to build a tools ecosystem around it. Assistants, GPTs, workflows, a browser, integrations—an entire orbit designed to keep users close. But the browser misfired, the tools haven’t created real gravity, and as Microsoft and Google caught up, people drifted back to their old workflows: Google Search, Google Workspace, Microsoft Office. The game is theirs to lose, and OpenAI knows it. OpenAI and Anthropic did force the giants to panic. But panic worked. Microsoft and Google turned their tankers faster than anyone expected. Even Nvidia is starting to feel pressure as their pricing pushes the market to find alternatives. Anthropic found its wedge with developers and some specialized industries. That strategy is working for now. But even there, habits are shifting. Teams I work with moved from Cursor back to VS Code with Claude. Devin will need a remarkably loyal user base to avoid that same gravitational pull. Perplexity still feels more like a feature than a standalone company, even if it finds its footing later. Here’s the real shift: Microsoft and Google don’t need the best models. They already own your data—emails, documents, spreadsheets, meetings, calendars. They will advise and eventually automate entire companies. And once they do, the level of lock-in will be unlike anything we’ve seen before. So where does that leave OpenAI? They can’t build every productivity app. They can’t rely on hype. They can’t assume that being first means being permanent. If they don’t create real ecosystem gravity, they risk becoming a brilliant feature floating between much larger platforms. They need a new model—pun absolutely intended. The future is moving toward BYOAI: Bring Your Own AI. I don’t want a generic assistant. I want my agent—the one that knows my patterns, my behaviour, my slow decisions and my fast ones. My agent will talk to your agent. Not the other way around. That’s the future no one is ready for—not even OpenAI.

Douglas Chrystall shared thisIs your website strategy becoming a relic? In my latest article, I argue that the "Search → Click → Explore Site" ritual that has defined digital marketing for decades is shattering. AI agents are becoming the new gatekeepers, providing answers directly and fundamentally changing user behavior. The most critical question for businesses must now shift from "How do we get traffic?" to "How does our data integrate seamlessly with AI?" I wrote this for leaders preparing for an AI-first world and would love to hear your thoughts in the comments. #ArtificialIntelligence #FutureOfWeb #DigitalStrategy #Innovation #ThoughtLeadership #AI

Douglas Chrystall shared thisRiding the AI Wave: Paddle Fast or Get Swallowed 🌊 Last week, we witnessed a significant shake-up in the world of AI, and it serves as a stark reminder: the AI landscape is ever-changing, and those who don't adapt risk being swept away. Many ChatGPT-based products, which seemed invincible not long ago, were suddenly eliminated. This isn't just a cautionary tale for founders but also a wake-up call for VC investors. It's not that VC professionals have suddenly become less astute; rather, they've invested in companies that now face substantial risks. As I mentioned earlier this year, merely building a simple front-end for ChatGPT doesn't cut it anymore—it's not delivering enough value. The vulnerability isn't limited to add-on products; it extends to a broader spectrum of AI ventures. To stay afloat, you need to anticipate OpenAI's roadmap and pivot accordingly. Take the realm of text-to-speech companies (TTS), for example. Many are at risk of being submerged by the wave if they don't swiftly introduce value beyond what ChatGPT can provide. A more convenient interface alone won't secure their future. Even the giants like Google are not immune, as they've faced delays in their latest speech technologies. This underscores that no player, big or small, can afford to rest on their laurels. In the dynamic world of startups, it's crucial to establish your unique 'moat'—that distinct advantage beyond the reach of competitors like ChatGPT. Merely achieving 'Product Market Fit' isn't sufficient in today's fast-paced market. While today you might be perfectly aligned, tomorrow could see you struggling against unforeseen challenges. It's vital for startups to delve deep into what truly sets them apart. Reflect on the proprietary knowledge or resources exclusive to your industry, those critical elements that aren't easily accessible or replicable by others. This is the key to not just surviving, but thriving in an ever-evolving business landscape. In these dynamic times, the mantra is clear: paddle fast or risk being swallowed by the AI wave. Embrace innovation, find your differentiator, and stay ahead of the curve. 🌊 #ai #innovation #business #automotive

Hive CPQ • 11K followers
Hive CPQ is introducing a new term: "CPQ vibing" CPQ vibing, derived from the term 'code vibing', is a term for AI-assisted CPQ development where a CPQ model builder provides high-level, natural language instructions to an AI, and the AI generates the CPQ model. The model builder then interacts with the AI to refine and iterate on the code, often focusing on the overall goal rather than writing or debugging each line/rule/constraint themselves. Coined by Hive CPQ in early 2025, the practice represents a shift from traditional, line-by-line modelling to a more conversational and high-level workflow with an AI "model building buddy".

Agentforce leverages metadata - Flow, Apex, Prompt Templates. But the Agent is also metadata. And reuseability is an accelerator, so the dependencies get complex quickly. And we will see orgs with 100's or 1,000s of agents. Marc Benioff in the Bloomberg interview that he wants 1 BILLION Agents by end of 2025. https://lnkd.in/gGip_dC3 Luckily all the org, Data Cloud and Agentforce metadata and dependencies are in Elements.cloud metadata dictionary so that you can see the impact of changes to metadata on the different agents. And you can get started with the free tier called Agent Designer. As Vala Afshar, Salesforce Chief Digital Evangelist, said in a recent webinar, how are you going to manage all this without a tool like Elements? https://lnkd.in/gJ_hdJbW

Why should Active Metadata Tags be the backbone of your AI strategy? Active Metadata Tags (AMTs) are used for automatic enrichment of metadata. Euno supports two types of custom metadata enrichment capabilities, both of which generate AMTs: #1 Extract structured metadata from unstructured metadata. This involved parsing metadata from elements like code and descriptions. A common application would be to enforce data modeling guardrails. Examples: → Implicit columns schema: Analyze dbt model code to determine whether the resulting schema includes implicit or explicit columns. → Verification checks: Assess naming conventions, detect use of approximate count distinct when querying large tables, evaluate documentation agility, flag full outer joins, and more. #2 Compose new AMTs. This approach combines metadata of a resource, and of any related resources, to set a new property on a resource. Examples: → Non-trivial custom SQL: Tag Tableau Custom SQL nodes that do not add logic. → Certified data source: Tag Tableau data sources as ‘certified’ if they don’t contain non-trivial custom SQL. → Certified dashboard: Tag Tableau dashboards as ‘certified’ if they only depend on certified data sources. This capability is essential for governance workflows in large organizations where different teams maintain different parts of the stack. So team AI can build on something that team B created. Consider this scenario: → The team maintaining dbt can create a custom property to flag models for deprecation (e.g., models lacking both ‘prod’ and ‘prod_ready’ tags). → Analytics teams can then use this signal to create custom properties for their BI assets to drive workflows to migrate away from those models. Why does this also matter for AI agents? By implementing AMTs to surface trust signals, AI agents can actually tell the difference between exploratory work and official definitions. Example: → Euno’s MCP server surfaces to AI agents only Tableau logic that meets your trust standard and is considered certified such as: ‘depends only on dbt models from the gold layer and was in use in the past 60 days.’ *** Expect to hear much more about Active Metadata Tags! They’re quickly becoming the key to scale AI beyond the sandbox in your organization. #ActiveMetadata

Great testing & development starts with great sandboxes - Those are golden words from Emily Call, MBA on Salesforce development and I wholeheartedly agree and support that theory. In this video, Emily demonstrates how Rubrik sandbox seeding transforms this painful process with automated sandbox seeding that’s: ✅ Fast and repeatable ✅ GDPR & CCPA compliant (thanks to built-in data masking) ✅ Uses smart analysis to ensure ample storage If sandbox seeding is a pain point that you’ve been struggling with, I strongly recommend watching the full video and checking out Rubrix sandbox seeding solution. Salesforce Research releases an interesting benchmark, CRMArena-Pro, that focuses on sales and service activities. This paper shows that all commercial LLMs have some major flaws when it comes to conducting standard sales and service tasks. Charles Araujo and I are quite interested in this new custom benchmark as it’s a step towards better measuring the true business performance of AI. https://lnkd.in/gDhtPygv

I was recently quoted in an article for Computerworld. The article is about how Salesforce’s Slack platform has changed its API terms of service to stop organizations from using Large Language Models (LLMs) to ingest the platform’s data as part of its efforts to implement better enterprise data discovery and search.
