Most RF engineers know FBRx exists. Few have sat down and worked through what its specs actually need to be and why. We put together a system-level budgeting exercise for a mock 5G-like DPD scenario. Starting from a handful of boundary conditions and working down to a complete FBRx spec table, this article covers: - Gain range - Noise figure - ADC ENOB - IIP2 and IIP3 - Phase noise and why a shared PLL helps a lot - Input return loss as a gain flatness constraint, not just an impedance problem Some specs come out of clean calculations, others from engineering judgment, and the article tries to be explicit about which is which. https://lnkd.in/gCqF6c9y

**Most DV engineers hit a wall after three years.** If you’re still tweaking the same test‑bench you wrote in your first job, you’re already falling behind. In digital verification the toolbox looks small—SystemVerilog, UVM, a few simulators—but the real differentiator is **architecting verification strategies that scale with silicon complexity**. 🔎 **Industry reality:** ≈ 70 % of engineers at the 2‑3‑year mark are still “test writers.” The remaining 30 % have become verification leads because they stopped asking *“How do I write this test?”* and started asking *“How do I prove this block is bug‑free with minimal regression cycles?”* ### The 3‑Step DV Growth Framework 1. **Depth → Breadth** – Own one methodology (UVM) end‑to‑end, then apply it to a different IP. Cross‑domain work forces system‑level thinking. 2. **Metrics‑Driven Ownership** – Move from “the test passed” to “I own coverage closure, bug‑escape rate, and regression time.” Let hard data define your impact. 3. **Leadership Through Automation** – Build reusable UVCs, scoreboards, and checkers and embed them in a CI pipeline. Automating the routine 80 % makes you the 20 % that shapes architecture. **Contrarian view:** Specializing in a single tool is a dead‑end. New simulators and formal engines appear daily; the only lasting advantage is a strategic mindset—evaluating, integrating, and evolving verification flows faster than the competition. **Takeaway:** If you’re still counting test cases, you’re counting yourself out. Pivot to metrics, own the end‑to‑end flow, and let automation be your lever. The next three years will either make you a verification leader or consign you to the background noise of the silicon floor. Choose wisely.
