Genentech, a member of the Roche Group, has broken ground on a new 700,000-square-foot manufacturing facility in Holly Springs, North Carolina, the company’s first #manufacturing site on the U.S. East Coast. The plant is designed to support production of future metabolic medicines, including next-generation obesity treatments. Genentech said it will invest more than $700 million in the project, which is expected to create more than 400 manufacturing jobs when operational and over 1,500 construction jobs during buildout. The facility is slated to be completed and operational by 2029, according to the company. The FDA is tightening its novel drug approvals. Only 46 in 2025, compared to 50 in 2024 and 55 in 2023. Of course, there are a number of factors into why this is happening. With many variables influencing the decision for approval, the need for controllable factors has become a top priority.    Fewer approvals means fewer opportunities for biopharma teams to capitalize on.    Successful applications come from clean-cut and reproducible data. Proof that the therapy really works, and better than existing treatments. This additionally makes manufacturing at scale critical to long-term therapeutic viability.    So, what should teams focus on? Reproducibility. Let the data prove itself. Novel drug timelines are accelerated because of promising data. It’s applicable across the board. Our NC 203 specializes in reproducible data by combining brightfield/fluorescence-based imaging. Operators can be reassured that its closed cell counting system never tampers with data and can expect top tier analytical alignment between users & instruments.

The next frontier for cell therapy is solid tumors — representing roughly 85% of cancers and historically resistant to immune-based treatments. Most companies don’t lose their best employees because of pay. They lose them when employees realize the culture they were sold… isn’t real. I rewatched National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation during the Holidays —and it felt less like a comedy and more like a case study. Clark Griswold didn’t just expect a bonus. He believed leadership. He trusted what he was told. He made decisions based on it. And when that didn’t happen… trust was gone. That same pattern is playing out across companies right now. We hear: “People first” “We value our teams” “We’re like family” But then: • Benefits disappear overnight • Raises get cut or quietly removed • Toxic environments get ignored Let’s call it what it is— That’s not culture. That’s branding. And the long-term impact is already showing up: • High performers exit first • The rest disengage • Leadership credibility erodes • Hiring gets harder as reputation spreads Here’s the uncomfortable truth: If your values only exist when times are good… they aren’t values.
