This is a big deal and worth recognizing as a policy milestone. The next question is what the authorization pathway looks like for getting these models truly operational in higher impact level environments. The bottleneck at IL6+ hasn't ever been the technology... it's the treacherous compliance drill that mission owners have to navigate. I understand that CSRMC is supposed to change that. Great to join Courtney Stiles of REDCOM Laboratories, Inc. (which provides secure, interoperable comms for some *very* very important clients) and Arun Seraphin, Executive Director of National Defense Industrial Association - (NDIA)'s ETI | Emerging Technologies Institute for a conversation on "Rethinking Command and Control Capabilities through JADC2" In this conversation together we explore the #difference between a top-down vs. #bottoms-#up approach, as well as the #strengths and challenges of a single vendor approach vs. a #heterogeneous approach. #dodztactivities #ztiplan Continuing the discussion on the DOD actrivities with the goal in mind...of posting about an activity (one at a time) to create discussion about: - understaning the intent - describing the scope - ideas to test/ validate (properly, not blind claims) - risks but lets also make sure we learn from our previous discussion on activities, and it was reminded that (even for identity) we must always keep our scope flexible to not only what we administer, but also what we require... that being...sometimes there are people (outside our identity framework) that needs to access our data and visa versa... and those motions are critical to mission success Albert Rapp So lets move on to #1_2_1 "Implement App based permissions per enterprise" Understanding=This appears to actually be a governance requirement to establish a policy to guide the force (enterprise and component). Its intent is to estabilsh "global" guidance for attributes that are needed for application use (from a user, power user, administrator, etc) to ensure that the solution in #1_1_1 is aware and can manage all attributes necessary for application usage. Scope: it states "enterprise" and "component" so the intent is to account for all apps as well as all possible user [types] across the enterprise so all components (either at an enterprise or each individual component level) are aware of the required attributes necessary to govern, and audit (AAA) appropriate application access (IGA and PAM) Test/validate: While its easy to cut a policy, its equally important to ensure that the policy both accounts for all possible applications, is up to date with anything in the works, but also has a POAM for everything not capable of meeting the guidance. Different Audits (for financial systems, etc) are already in place to ensure proper seperation of duties and rights manageent, and could be used as templates. Risks: without a strategic approach to attribute mangement, you cant properly account for mission requirements as well as proper access management, leaving to gaps to prevent lateral movement and/or insider threat. This means...all components and the agency must be on the same sheet of music with this governance/policy to ensure clarity in interoperability, ensure proper access management, and common SOC site picture. BLAB*: until clarifying governance is established that accounts for all systems and POAM plan for those that cant is articulated across the force, everyone is still just "making it up as they want/go"! its not truly accomplished #threatdefense #accessmanagement #analytics... the #ZTA redefining of AAA underpins everything in Zero Trust... and if we dont "sync" everything...we are still just upgrading our old ways...not transforming into a new one!
