In retail leadership, we are often told to work opposite schedules of our top performing leaders to maximize coverage, and there is real value in that. But sometimes the best move is putting your strongest players on the floor together. Sometimes that includes yourself. ✨ What looked like it was planned to be a normal non-peak Thursday turned into a big success. In Luxury retail especially, Visual Merchandising is not just about making the store look good — it’s about helping customers imagine their home inside the store. A well-placed sofa setting… The right dining setup… A bedroom story that feels real… These displays don't just decorate the store — they drive conversions. Store Manager to Regional Manager: Influence vs. Impact in Retail... In luxury retail, stepping from Store Manager into Regional leadership isn’t just a promotion... it’s a shift in how you create value. As a Store Manager, your impact is direct: coaching in real time, managing floor execution, driving sales through daily decisions. But as a Regional Manager, your value comes from influence... the ability to elevate multiple teams, shape culture, and drive performance through others. It’s less about being “hands on” and more about being high-leverage. Over the years, I’ve learned that the most effective Regional leaders make their store visits count. For me, it comes down to three priorities: 1. Investing in My Teams’ Skills A Regional’s role isn’t to “audit.” It’s to accelerate capability. When I visit a store, I’m focused on: Coaching leaders on the floor, not in the back office Role‑playing client interactions to build confidence Reinforcing behaviors that drive consistency across the region Identifying talent early and shaping future leaders When the team grows, the KPIs follow 2. Enhancing the Customer Experience Luxury clients aren’t buying a product — they’re buying how we make them feel. So during visits, I’m looking at the business through the eyes of the guest: Is the environment inviting? Is storytelling happening naturally, not mechanically? Are we creating emotional connection, not just completing transactions? Are we anticipating needs and removing friction at every step? Great service is the most scalable differentiator in retail. A Regional leader must protect it relentlessly. 3. Driving KPIs Through Intention, Not Pressure KPIs aren’t numbers on a dashboard — they’re results of behaviors. My job is to connect those behaviors to the outcomes: Want higher AT? Focus on strong styling and full-look building. Want higher UPT? Lean into needs-based conversation and product confidence. Want stronger CRM capture? Reinforce the why behind relationship building. Store visits become impact multipliers when they shape how teams think, not just what they do. Influence is how you show up. Impact is what you leave behind. The best Regional Managers create momentum long after they leave the store. Your presence should empower leaders, not overwhelm them. Your coaching should build capacity, not dependency. Your influence should elevate culture, not control it.
