How do you build an AI ecosystem that works across different GPU vendors and sells better to customers? At VMware Explore's "AI at Scale" panel, Chris Wolf (Global Head of AI and Advanced Services, VCF, Broadcom) tackled this exact question from Hasan Siraj, head of software, core switching group. Chris revealed how customer feedback is driving @broadcom’s strategy: "What you have now is the equivalent of AWS bedrock, but I can run it on front" – that's what customers are saying about their AI foundation capabilities. Broadcom is building the ultimate AI enablement platform. Chris made a brilliant analogy: Just like Windows provided the foundation for countless applications, VMware Cloud Foundation (VCF) platform enables customers to build POCs, scale AI applications, and seamlessly switch between different accelerators without refactoring. Here are my key takeaways from this panel: ✅ Open-source foundation: AI inference engine built on Blom, supporting AMD, Nvidia, and custom silicon with enterprise-grade controls ✅ Native integrations everywhere: CNCF-compliant Kubernetes, open AI APIs, Hugging Face CLI, and multiple ML ops vendor support ✅ Strategic partnerships over dominance: Working with multiple commercial AI partners because "certain models work better for certain use cases" ✅ Hardware flexibility without refactoring: "If you're decommissioning the cluster and bringing in new accelerators, I shouldn't have to refactor the app. Should just work." ✅ Customer choice is king: Customers want variety in AI solutions, and the platform enables that flexibility This isn't my first rodeo with these AI leaders. Technology leadership thrives with integrity and teamwork. Impressive conversation curated by Salvi Media on AI and cybersecurity with Lane Bess (Deep Instinct, ex-CEO Palo Alto Networks ) and Dan Streetman (Tanium, ex-CEO TIBCO). The rise of AI across code bases and related security operations has outpaced human capabilities to protect our digital and physical infrastructure. This is the leadership imperative from humans. Upskilling our national workforce as early as early education is a national imperative, one that requires all of us. Common themes in our approaches: the rise of “dark AI” makes visibility and predictive security essential; leadership rooted in clear strategy and transparency builds long-term trust; and the widening talent gap highlights the need for scalable platforms that empower operators with responsible AI. These are the same dynamics we track in our investing, where the best founders are building durable companies by marrying technical excellence with human integrity and teamwork.
