Today I am honored to step into the role of CEO of Microsoft Gaming. Over the last 25 years, Xbox has grown to reach more than 500 million monthly active players around the world, including nearly 40 studios across Activision, Bethesda, Blizzard, King, Mojang, and Xbox Game Studios. Together, these teams care for some of the most enduring and beloved franchises in entertainment including Halo, Minecraft, The Elder Scrolls, Call of Duty, World of Warcraft, Diablo, Candy Crush, and Fallout. Our reach today spans devices, geographies, and generations. Thanks to Phil Spencer for his leadership, and to every studio, platform, and operations team that built this foundation. I want to congratulate Matt Booty on his promotion to Chief Content Officer. Matt’s career reflects a lifelong commitment to games and to the people who make them. I am looking forward to partnering with and learning from him. I believe gaming is one of the most powerful art forms in the world. It brings people together. It creates real opportunities for developers, artists, storytellers, and entrepreneurs everywhere. That combination of creativity and technology, and the chance to help people make and share something meaningful, is why this work matters to me. Gaming has always pushed the limits of technology. It demands the best from hardware, software, and services. It brings together art and engineering in ways few other media can. I am grateful to the teams who built Xbox. The future belongs to the teams who dare to build something surprising, something no one else is willing to try, and have the patience to see it through. I am grateful to embark on this journey with Matt, Dave McCarthy, Kirsten Ward and the rest of the Xbox leadership team. Read my commitments here: https://lnkd.in/gMvHimmS
Hey Asha! Xbox Gamer here. Feedback and suggestions: -All games should be color graded for HDR and tone mapped down to SDR; Dolby Vision Gaming HDR is a technical advantage - use the native SIDK in every game. -Moreover, we've paid >$700 for a device that can't play a Dolby Vision bluray disc. -Bethesda games have horrible quality control and terrible output relative to their peers; for a studio of it's size it's slow. Externally, it looks like bad a operation with crappy procedures for approval. -All the Fallout 4 (Oblivion) updates have broken the game and roll backs are generally how Bethesda has resolved the bugs in their 'next gen' patches; No native HDR in their games is lazy work. I hope you get the studios to leverage the technical advantages and improve the quality of their outputs. About Next Gen: -NPU for gaming? -Are you planning to leverage the Azure inference architecture in the RDNA 5 neural array stack? -I think releasing a high end handheld RDNA 5 based, with OLED VRR and Dolby Vision support; then, a crazy powerful console later ('28/29) makes gaming sense. Most games have underutilized CPU threading and the current consoles are more than powerful. Congrats on the promotion. 👏 Best Wishes! -V
This couldn't of been worse news to hear all day...
Under normal circumstances I would congratulate you for this new position and wish you much success. But these are not normal circumstances. I have been a very loyal Xbox customer since the 360 era and put a lot of my time and money in your platform. But deep down I know that Microsoft will shut down the Xbox division within the next three years tops. In 2027, at the very latest, you will announce that there won't be any new Xbox hardware anymore. Then you will start selling off the gaming studios. Then Microsoft will write off the billions of dollars of losses, as it was done with Windows Mobile and the Nokia mobile phone business. Or the Zune. Microsoft never knew how to make Xbox or any other consumer product a viable business, simply because Microsoft only understands enterprise customers and sees its future in Azure and AI. Xbox is dead and you have been set up for failure by your upper management.
The infamous Matt Booty. The one who shut down Tango Gameworks, and the very next day explains that Xbox needs more studios capable of producing exactly that kind of games. Looking forward to discovering the rest of the plan. Can’t wait to see what this duo comes up with next.
Outside hire with no gaming industry experience and coming in from the realm of AI seems like a swan song for Xbox. AI has no place in art in any form, all AI is slop. It has no soul, only people worried about bottom lines rather than the work they are creating are perusing it. Microsoft has lost its way. Hope you prove me wrong, but this all feels gross. Phil was a beacon for gamers and even he couldn’t stem the tide from AI and micro transactions as the relationship between players and companies divided further.
I'm interested to follow this move. There is certainly some discontent evident from users commenting on this move. The sentiment that AI has no place in gaming seems to be widely held, and the "outsider" label sure seems like it fits. Ok, so what? Isn't a true shake up what everyone is asking for? I think this new CEO has the opportunity of a lifetime, and I cant wait to watch what happens.
lol Xbox is so dead 😵
Congratulations on your appointment as CEO of Xbox. As a long time fan of the brand since the original Xbox, I hope you’ll continue to move the brand forward, and work to counter the negativity spread by influencers and creators on platforms like YouTube, who claim that “Xbox is dead.” This spread of negativity is one of biggest challenges the brand has. I look forward to your leadership showing definitively that Xbox is alive and well, prepared for the future, and still one of the best gaming platforms for gamers to invest in. Lastly, I hope you’ll consider making an account on the social media platform Threads. I wish you tremendous fortune and success as CEO, and as a gamer I’m looking forward to seeing up coming games at the Xbox showcase in June.
AI slop comming to Xbox
