Basilios M. shared thisAI? Where we're going, we don't need AI... I nearly fell off the treadmill this morning when I looked up and saw Back to the Future II playing on the gym screen. BTTF is one of my all-time FAVORITES. Best. Workout. Ever. 🙌 This movie came out in 1989. And it predicted video calls, fingerprint recognition, drones, and wireless payments. Oh...and when Marty gets fired over a video chat? That scene hits different now. But the part that really got me was how characters just talked to their devices. And the devices talked back. That's AI...in 1989. Doc Brown didn't have a name for it. But he saw it coming. I've been in insurance long enough to know that the future doesn't wait for anyone. AI is already reshaping how we manage risk and serve clients. The question is the same one Marty asked Doc: “What happens to us in the future?" Are you paying attention to the answer? (Also, we still don't have hoverboards and I am personally offended🛹) ♻️ Repost if you grew up quoting this movie. 👇 Drop your favorite BTTF prediction in the comments!

Basilios M. shared thisAnd somehow…I’m older than AMERISAFE, Inc. (but it’s clearly aging better than I am). 😄 😭 Big milestone - AMERISAFE is 40 years strong! And while a lot has changed over four decades, one thing hasn’t: this is still an underserved market. Small and mid-sized businesses in high-hazard, hard-to-place industries - construction, agriculture, marine, and more - still need partners who understand the work and the risk. What stands out most to me is that we’ve never lost our roots. We started as an agency - built on relationships, trust, and understanding the realities our customers face every day. That mindset of showing up and earning trust still defines how we operate today as a carrier and how we support our agent partners. Four decades in, and we’re still focused on what matters most: Workers’ Comp for Working People. Proud to be part of a company that’s stayed true to its purpose. 💙 #AMERISAFE #WorkersComp #Insurance #40Years #GratitudeBasilios M. shared this#OnThisDay We began writing major hazardous industries in addition to logging. Basilios M. shared thisMy old coworker Corwyn just published his first book, Shut Up, Hang On, and I had to share. Writing a book is hard. Finishing one, putting your name on the cover, and handing it to the world? That takes guts. You’re basically saying “here’s something I made, hope you like it” and then waiting to find out. Corwyn, you did it anyway. Proud to call you a friend, and even prouder to watch you pull this off. Picked up my copy yesterday. Cracking it open this weekend with coffee in hand. If you’re into stories about resilience and figuring things out the hard way, give it a look. And if you do read it, leave him a review (but only if it’s a good one 😜).

Basilios M. shared thisI've been in sales long enough to remember when CRM was the "big thing" that was going to change everything. (It did. Eventually.) So yeah - I rolled my eyes at AI for longer than I should have. Then I actually tried it. And now I feel a little silly for waiting so long. Here's where it's actually making a difference (and I'll be the first to admit I still have A LOT to figure out): 📖 First drafts. Emails, follow-ups, proposals. I still write them. AI just kills the writer's block. 🕵 Pre-call research. I used to overengineer my prep. Now it takes 5 minutes. That time goes back into the actual conversation. 🗒️ Call recaps. Nobody got into sales because they loved logging CRM notes. Now they don't have to. But here's the thing nobody really talks about - AI doesn't just save time. It moves time. Away from the stuff that was never going to close a deal anyway. And back into the things that actually do: 🏗️ Building trust. 🎁 Actually being present with the client in front of you. 🤝 The relationship work that wins deals and keeps them. A good salesperson using these tools will outwork one who isn't. That part I'm sure of. Less admin. More human. Took me a while to see it. Glad I finally did. How are you using AI to get time back? Drop it below - I'd love to steal some ideas.

His impact across the Carolinas and Northeast Regions is undeniable, but what stands out most is who he is at his core. Andrew is focused, driven, and competitive—but always grounded in humility. He genuinely loves his people, shows up for both our production and operations teams, and leads with integrity in everything he does. Basilios M. liked thisBasilios M. liked thisAI is causing humanity to lose its voice. Most of what I read on any social platform (LinkedIn probably being the worst) is 98% AI generated with no human input or review whatsoever. My theory is a lot of it is from folks are not comfortable posting their own writing due fear of making grammar mistakes (or maybe even English not being their first language). I’m also believe some of this is out of laziness. BUT I believe authentic human voices will eventually win, grammar issues and all. Posting content (or worse, deliverables) without reviewing and adding your own voice is going to eventually be a tell tale sign for someone not putting in the effort and attention to detail. AI is great. I use it. Even for content on this platform. But I am very careful to ensure it still represents ME. Let’s not lose our authentic human voices as we go down this AI journey. I was on a call yesterday doing one of our AI office hours and a senior executive indicated how he can tell when one of his teammates uses AI to send him emails because it’s not his voice. It’s 3 sentences too long, repetitive, and just not his teammate. Imagine doing this to a client or friend who’s known you for decades. They’ll think your email has been hacked! AI is great as a thought partner. But you are a better thinker and creator of original thoughts.

A leopard never changes it's spots and what comes around....goes aroundBasilios M. liked thisCulture, The hardest part of building and running a company A strong culture is built to prevent problems but it’s also built to respond in moments like this Scenario: a competitor targets your sales team and executes a coordinated “Raid or Lift-out.” ✅ Top producers leave ✅ Clients are approached ✅ Pressure builds.....FAST You can have the best hiring practices and the strongest culture but the reality is, there will always be individuals who prioritize short-term gain over long-term integrity That’s why Culture alone isn’t enough and Preparation matters The organizations that navigate these situations effectively don’t just react, they’re ready: • They’ve built a culture that reinforces ethical behavior from day one • They have clear frameworks to enforce contractual rights • They align Legal, Compliance, and business leadership immediately • They act with discipline, not emotion • They keep their CUSTOMERS at the center of every decision Here’s the reality: Individuals who operate unethically rarely do it once, It’s a pattern which your competition will ultimately realize. At Million & Associates, we help organizations do both: ✅ Build cultures that reduce risk ✅ Implement strategies that stand up when tested. In today’s environment, it’s not just about preventing disruption, it’s about being prepared to respond if it happens so you can focus on your customer, your people, and your business #Culture #Leadership #Transportation #Insurance #RiskManagement #Trucking #Logistics #RiskManagement #CommercialInsurance #InsurTech #Freight #FleetManagement #ATA #CLDA #TCA #NTIG

I've talked to several friends, former colleagues, and ridiculously talented people lately who all said the same thing: "I can't find a job." Not because they're unqualified. These are people with elite resumes. Leaders. Builders. Operators. People with real experience, real wins, and real accomplishments. Yet somehow they're stuck in an endless corporate version of online dating where companies post jobs, collect thousands of applications, repost over and over the job listing, and keep holding out for a celebrity unicorn who can: - Increase revenue 147% - Reduce churn to -1,234% - Lead 12 departments - Code in 62 languages - Cure burnout with their presence - Speak fluent AI...are actual AI - Work for entry-level pay, do exec-level work. And preferably arrive riding a rainbow with an MBA from Hogwarts. Recruiting has turned into fantasy football for hiring managers. Everyone says they're hiring. Nobody wants to settle for an actual human. They want a mythical creature. A unicorn. With wings. A gold throne. And a personal brand that screams bedazzled Rhinestone Cowboy...or Cowgirl. The problem? While companies wait for unicorns, incredibly capable people are sitting at home wondering if they somehow became invisible overnight. *This post was written as empathetic satire on the state of the employment union, with receipts. BLS data. Gartner. Korn Ferry. Goldman Sachs. Live layoff trackers. Not from Fox News data. And a healthy dose of personal frustration. Florida remains one of the most complex regulatory environments for insurance product filings. Over the years, I've seen how the unknowns of navigating Florida's regulatory landscape, combined with internal capacity constraints, have kept carriers from expanding into the state altogether. Large deductible WC is a good example. The OIR holds you to a standard most carriers aren't prepared for, and the objection patterns are remarkably consistent. I had Owen analyze objections across Florida large deductible WC filings to see where carriers ran into challenges: → Regulators challenge "negotiated" factors like Loss Conversion Factors and ULAE charges, all rating factors need actuarial support, not individual negotiation → The deductible endorsement can't be canceled independently of the policy , and failure to reimburse deductibles must trigger policy cancellation, not just endorsement removal → 60 days' notice for cancellation due to non-payment, not the standard 10 days → Manuals must be self-contained and titled as standalone programs, not labeled as "Miscellaneous Rules" or treated as an NCCI addendum #product #compliance #regulations #workcomp

Really appreciate being a part of this Fast Company conversation with leaders reflecting on the long-term decisions that continue to shape organizations today. For us at Lockton, making the long bet to remain private and independent more than 60 years ago wasn’t just a business decision — it set the tone for how we invest in our people, our culture, and the long-term value we deliver for clients. That independence continues to guide us today.

Workers' Comp premiums are outside of your control! That's what most business owners in Florida think. The state of Florida sets the workers' comp rates. This means that most of the time, the difference in premiums from one workers' compensation insurance company is non-existent. In this series, we will talk about what can be done to your workers' comp policies to take control of their cost. In this specific video, I talk about what is a consent to rate (CTR). A consent to rate is when your insurance company thinks you are paying too little premium for the exposure they have, and they charge you more than the state rates. This could be because of a variety of items, but primarily because of claim activity. One common industry we see this in is roofing. In these cases, you need to work with your broker and review what is happening that is causing claims ( for example: ladder falls, back injuries, etc.) and put controls in place to mitigate those injuries from happening in the future. When this is done right, and you paint the right picture of how you are improving your operations to lower the likelihood of prior claims happening, this helps insurance companies feel more comfortable insuring the workers comp portion of your insurance WITHOUT a CTR. If you would like to review your workers' comp and see if it has a CTR, check your policy for a page titled" Florida Workers' Compensation Consent to Rate Form." See you in the next one! #workerscompensation #consenttorate #workcomp #commercialinsurance #roofingfl #roofingcontractors #hvacfl #hvaccontractors #hvacinsurance #roofinginsurance

Are we in the next golden age of the independent agent? That's the question! And if you ask me, the answer is yes. No layers of bureaucracy. No endless budget cycles. No waiting on corporate approval. The agility that's always defined our model is exactly what AI rewards, and that's great news for you. Your board asks: "Why are loss ratios climbing while insurtechs operate at half our cost?" Because your claims team is drowning in work that doesn't need human judgment. Your adjusters can't manually triage 10,000 FNOL submissions, audit every partner transaction, and extract millions of litigation docs... and still have time for complex claims, fraud investigations, and customer relationships. AI agents handle the grunt work. Your team handles the decisions. → Claims Agent (processes routine, flags complex for adjusters) → Partner QA Agent (monitors 100%, escalates issues to auditors) → Underwriting Agent (handles applications, routes edge cases to underwriters) → Compliance Agent (auto-reports, flags gaps for officers) → + 4 more Result: Same headcount. 65% faster processing. 12% better loss ratios. Your adjusters become claim strategists instead of data processors. Get the handbook → https://lnkd.in/gxNCM9Uy #LyzrAI #EnterpriseAI

Why 90% of the Fortune 500 Now Use Captives... and What That Means for Risk & Capital When more than 90% of Fortune 500 companies run a captive insurer, Boards are sending a clear message: resilience can’t just be bought off the shelf. Captives are no longer niche. They’re structural. They’re how companies are: ✔️ Replacing rigidity with flexibility ✔️ Using their own balance sheets to control predictable risks ✔️ Building platforms to test new coverages, access reinsurance, and even co-insure with peers This isn’t corporates walking away from insurance. It’s corporates reshaping it. What Leaders Must Know: ✅ Captive ownership has surged from under 50% in 2000 to ~90% of the Fortune 500 today. ✅ Mid-market companies are now catching up fast. ✅ Captives improve claims speed, enforce stronger data discipline, and even reduce EPS volatility. ‼️ Every dollar into a captive is a dollar not returning to the traditional pool, unless carriers, reinsurers, and capital markets engage with them, not against them. ➡️ The future is not “captives vs carriers” but captives + carriers + capital markets. Together, that’s how we build resilient risk-transfer systems fit for modern Boards. Why It Matters for AkinovA & Clients: At AkinovA, we see our role as bridging these three worlds: 1️⃣ Helping corporates leverage their captives more effectively. 2️⃣ Enabling insurers and reinsurers to re-engage with high-quality premium that might otherwise be lost to self-insurance. 3️⃣ Bringing capital markets alongside, not as a substitute, to expand liquidity and resilience and accessing structured risk flows aligned with corporate needs. 🧠 Boards aren’t simply asking for lower premiums. They’re asking for resilience they can trust. Those who can deliver it, collaboratively, will remain relevant. Those who can’t risk being left behind. 👉 Full article here on Substack: https://lnkd.in/egKSV6KT #CaptiveInsurance #EnterpriseRisk #CorporateResilience #InsuranceInnovation #AlternativeRisk #RiskTransfer #InsuranceLinkedSecurities #BoardStrategy #CICA #RiskCapital #StrategicResilience Captive Resources, LLC Captive Insurance Companies Association Vermont Captive Insurance Assn Self-Insurance Institute of America Bermuda Business Development Agency (BDA) Bermuda Captive Network Guernsey Finance David Bubb JP Boulus Jim Furio Jesse Olsen Nicholas J Hentges MBA, CIC Richard Cutcher

With the enactment of House Bill 837 in 2023, significant changes have occurred in the liability and settlement landscape for insurers in Florida. This tort reform measure offers clearer statutory guidance, emphasizing the ongoing importance of acting in good faith despite the reforms. Insurance professionals face the challenge of mitigating exposure and upholding defensible claims practices in this altered environment. To succeed, they must grasp the legal underpinnings of the good faith obligation, adopt industry best practices in claims handling, and keep abreast of the modifications brought about by HB 837. Adapting to these legal shifts is crucial for effectively managing claims and steering clear of potential bad faith issues. The Workers Compensation Paradox : Workplace injuries are going down. Workers' comp costs are going up. That paradox should stop every claims professional in their tracks. If frequency is falling, why is severity rising faster than ever? The answer isn't in the claim file. It never was. For decades, our industry has built smarter and smarter tools to analyze what's already recorded — injury codes, billing data, prior claim history. We've gotten very good at recognizing which claims look like expensive ones based on what past expensive claims looked like. But the real drivers of delayed recovery? Fear of re-injury. Catastrophizing. Workplace dissatisfaction. Mental health overlays. Social stressors that never get documented anywhere. WCRI and NCCI have confirmed this for years: biopsychosocial factors — not injury severity — are the primary predictors of delayed return-to-work. And yet most claims organizations have no repeatable, reliable way to surface them. That's the blind spot. At The Claim Lab, we built our entire platform around closing it. We go directly to the injured worker — at day one — with validated psychosocial questionnaires that capture what no claims system records. We turn that data into AI-driven risk profiles that tell your team not just which claims are at risk, but why — and what to do about it. Not a flag. A playbook. The result: 10–15% reductions in disability duration that have outsized impact on indemnity spend, litigation rates, and most importantly — the experience of the injured worker trying to find their way back. Severity isn't going away. But with the right intelligence, it is manageable, measurable, and increasingly — preventable. If your team is doing everything right and still losing ground on claim costs, it may be time to look at the one data source no one else is collecting. The person behind the claim. Are early underwriting signals already limiting your insurance options without you realizing it? In practice, options often begin narrowing well before renewal conversations. It is rarely because the risk has fundamentally changed. Underwriters are usually responding to signals that point to uncertainty or misalignment. Issues that commonly influence underwriting perception include: • Risk information that is incomplete or outdated • Loss history submitted without context or corrective actions • Operational changes that are not reflected in coverage • Risk management programs that exist largely as documentation Individually, these issues may seem manageable, but over time they shape how your organization is evaluated and how much flexibility remains. Explore how these signals affect your insurance options in our latest blog: https://hubs.la/Q045fGzj0 #LibertyCompany #Underwriting #RiskManagement #InsuranceStrategy #BusinessInsurance

National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC) President & #Virginia Commissioner Scott White kicked off the 246th National Merting of US state-based #insurance regulators with a focus on the 2026 priorities including #naturalcatastrophes & #resilience. White highlighted a visit state insurance commissioners made over the weekend to the Dixon Trail neighborhood in Escondido, Calif. Dixon Trail is the first development built to meet the Insurance Institute for Business & Home Safety - IBHS Wildfire Prepared Home™ neighborhood-level wildfire resilience standard. “What they saw as they walked along those streets wasn’t just individual wildfire-prepared homes," said Commissioner White. "They saw an entire wildfire-prepared neighborhood built on a blueprint that blended risk #mitigation and modern building standards. And, hopefully, these homes are a potential glimpse into a more resilient future.” #insurance #reinsurance #resilience Association of Bermuda Insurers and Reinsurers (ABIR) https://lnkd.in/eYCpJEnZ

Florida drivers are seeing tangible benefits from recent tort reform efforts. State regulators have secured nearly $1B in Progressive auto insurance premium credits, and the top five carriers in Florida have averaged a 6.5% rate reduction for 2025. These outcomes illustrate how thoughtful legal reforms can reduce excessive litigation costs, stabilize the insurance market, and deliver financial relief to consumers. Homeowners insurance is also seeing more stability, with 150 residential insurers filing for flat or reduced rates this year. Florida provides a case study for other states considering reforms, showing that addressing legal system abuse can benefit policyholders and insurers, while supporting a competitive, sustainable market. Legislative reforms in Florida encouraged reinsurers to write more broadly at mid-year renewals to maintain their market share on programs. The reforms, enacted in late December 2022, significantly reduced litigated property claims, creating a more predictable and stable environment. https://lnkd.in/dYht-_Xp

Insurance Distribution… • 5K followers
A lot of MGA leaders are finally paying attention to submission workflows, underwriting triage, and operational efficiency. They should. Those are real constraints. But here is the mistake we see all the time when we run a full MGA Distribution Strength Diagnostic Assessment and analyze what the data is actually revealing: A real constraint is not always the primary constraint. In many MGAs, the bigger issue starts earlier in the channel. Weak broker behavior. Weak specialization. Late entry into the deal. Weak account control. Low-trust opportunities. Poor-fit submissions. So when those problems stay unresolved, adding more workflow efficiency can help the MGA process more submissions faster. But it can also help the MGA process more noise faster. That is the trap. One of the things we have learned working through difficult distribution constraints with MGAs is this: Upstream distribution quality shapes submission quality, quote quality, bind quality, underwriting workload, and eventually book quality. That is why (premium-weighted) ratio quality matters so much. 1. Submission-to-Quote. 2. Quote-to-Bind. 3. Submission-to-Bind. Those numbers tell you virtually everything you need to know about what is really happening inside the channel. Because a small improvement in the right ratio can compound MGA scale across the entire channel. If submission QUALITY improves: → underwriters spend less time on bad-fit risks → quote-worthy opportunities increase → bindable business improves → broker trust improves → underwriting workload gets cleaner → premium growth gets healthier → the book gets stronger And over time, if the business is better selected and better controlled, that should support healthier loss performance too. That is why I do not think the answer is choosing between distribution strategy and underwriting efficiency. The strongest MGAs understand constraint order. Solve the primary constraint first. Then solve the next one. That is how you build an MGA that scales the right way. Not just faster. Better. The goal is not to process more submissions. The goal is to build a channel that produces more of the right submissions.

Thoughtful interview with Adam Schwebach of Gallagher Re in Insurance Journal. Indeed, Florida will benefit from confidence in the permanence of the legal and regulatory reforms which harmonized the state with national insurance standards and restored to stability to a market on the precipice. "I think the hope and goal of all stakeholders right now should really be stability. Stability leads to natural competition and improvement for policyholders, for carriers and for reinsurers, all the way around. I would give a ton of credit to the governor’s office, legislators and the Florida Office of Insurance Regulation who, over the past year have done a wonderful job of getting in front of the various reinsurance stakeholders and making sure they understand that the reforms that were passed are not going anywhere. That’s incredibly important to the market—maintaining stability." #Florida #insurance #reinsurance #propertyinsurance #coastalinsurance #homeownersinsurance https://lnkd.in/e8HfQNCv

When “Direct Physical Loss” Becomes a Shortcut for Denial As a former UPC Insurance adjuster, I remember the mantra drilled into us by managers: “We only pay for the direct physical loss.” What that meant in practice was simple — if wind damaged 76 shingles on three slopes, we were told to pay for 76 shingles. Nobody mentioned Florida’s Matching Statute. Nobody trained adjusters to ask whether replacing only 76 shingles would leave the roof uniform. And most adjusters didn’t question it — they didn’t know any better. Fast forward to today. I’m on the other side of the table as a Public Adjuster, and I see the same pattern repeating: A field adjuster walks into a kitchen water loss. Takes just enough photos to justify throwing the claim under the Limited Water Damage Endorsement. Doesn’t measure the rooms. Doesn’t scope the cabinets, countertops, baseboards, or flooring. Assumes: “I’ve seen this hundreds of times — it’s the same story.” But here’s the problem: that shortcut doesn’t serve the policy or the insured. It only serves the carrier. Florida law (F.S. §626.9744) requires carriers to ensure repairs result in a reasonably uniform appearance. You can’t tear out custom-built kitchen cabinets and expect them to match big-box replacements. You can’t patch parquet or tile in a continuous space and call it good faith. The truth? Bad front-end adjusting work is the root of so many disputes. When the initial coverage determination is lazy, incomplete, or guided by “just pay for the direct damage,” the insured is forced into an uphill fight. 🚨 WE AS ADJUSTERS HAVE AN OBLIGATION TO DO BETTER. We must do better. These claims drag on for months, not because of complexity, but because of bad information and bad coverage reviews. Policyholders deserve thorough investigations, accurate scopes, and coverage determinations that apply the full policy — not shortcuts that benefit the carrier. 👉 What do you think? Adjusters, attorneys, contractors — how often have you seen “direct physical loss” misapplied to avoid matching statutes or limit scope?
