After 15 years, my time as a federal employee is coming to an end (at least for now).
My journey has taken me from DHS HQ to FEMA and, most recently, to CISA — different components, one mission: to keep the nation safe and secure with integrity and honor. It truly has been the honor of my life to have worked with our nation’s most dedicated professionals, and it’s been a privilege to contribute to work that matters so much to so many.
This shift is something I never could have imagined. I’m not a nameless, faceless bureaucrat. And the programs I’ve worked to deliver aren’t wasteful — they’ve saved lives. Being a public servant isn’t just what I do; it’s who I am at my core.
Watching so many talented, mission-driven, brilliant colleagues departing the federal workforce and posting their
#opentowork banners has been truly heartbreaking, not to mention alarming. So it’s all the more painful to step away right now, not just because of the work I love, but because of what this moment represents for so many who have devoted their lives to service.
Still, I am choosing to remain hopeful. I’m proud of the values that I’ve stood for, and I will continue to carry them forward as I explore new opportunities in communications, public policy, and government affairs — spaces where I hope to continue to inform, connect, and advocate with purpose.
To my colleagues, mentors, and friends, from the bottom of my heart, I want to thank each and every one of you. Your continued courage and commitment are a reminder of what’s possible when public service is at its best.
And to my fellow Feds and contractors: please know that you, Dear Reader, deserve better. Find ways to continue to serve and support people beyond the walls of government. The world is still counting on you to help make it a better place, perhaps now more than ever. We need you.
I enjoyed looking fondly back at some of the memories and dear friends I’ve collected over the years… now, here’s to what comes next.
