Create a message template through a message in Recruiter and Recruiter Lite

Last updated: 9 months ago

You can create message templates in LinkedIn Recruiter and LinkedIn Recruiter Lite to send messages to potential candidates without the need to recreate the same message.

You can create up to 500 templates in Product settings or when you compose a message to a candidate to share with other users on your contract.

To create a new message template through a message:

  1. Click the Message icon on a candidate’s profile.

  2. Add a subject and message.

  3. Optional: Click the Variables icon and select a variable that will populate in the subject line or message body when you send a message. You can select from the following variables:

    • {firstName}: The variable for the candidate’s first name
    • {lastName}: The variable for the candidate’s last name
    • {fullName}: The variable for the candidate’s full name
    • {projectJobTitle}: The variable for the project’s job title (job post specific)
    • {projectCompany}: The variable for the company name (job post specific)
    • {projectLocation}: The variable for the project location (job post specific)
    • {jobPostLink}: The variable for the job post link (job post specific). Note: If the candidate is in a project with a closed job, the variable {jobPostLink} won't be available.

    Important to know

The variables {projectJobTitle}, {projectCompany}, {projectLocation}, and {jobPostLink} are only available when composing a message inside a project with an associated job post. These variables are associated with the job post and not the project details. Even if you manually update the project details, the variables won't be available unless there's an associated job post.

  4. Click Preview at the bottom of the message window to view how your personalized variables will populate in the message.

  5. Click Save as new template in the bottom left.

  6. Enter a template name.

  7. Under Make this template visible to, select Only me or Anyone in my organization. Team members can access templates you’ve made visible to everyone.

  8. Click Save.

Your new template will appear in the Message templates page in Product settings and in the template dropdown when you compose a message.

Notes:

  • If an admin on your contract turns off automated follow-up messages, all associated templates, including 2-message templates, won't display under Product settings or while composing a message.
  • If a template is set to be visible to anyone in your organization, recruiters on your contract can touch up a message template using AI when they draft a message to a candidate. AI-Assisted Messages will incorporate relevant candidate information into the draft to create a personalized message. This feature is available when drafting initial recruiting outreach messages that use an English template with more than 300 characters. At this time, LinkedIn Recruiter Professional Services customers can only touch up a template in 1:1 messages, not bulk messages.
  • You can delete a message template you own, but you can’t delete another user’s message template on your contract. Additionally, admins can view and delete message templates set to Anyone in my organization under the visibility settings; however, they cannot view or delete message templates set to Only me.
