The benefits of the Career Goal Setting feature include:

• Empower learners to tailor their learning with recommendations focused on the critical skills needed for their next career step. 
• Give admins control to customize role titles and promote priority career goals aligned with your company’s unique roles and strategy. 

The Career Goal Setting feature follows this workflow:

• Learners select career goals linked to real roles within your organization. 
• The platform recommends skills and learning content aligned to those goals. 
• Progress tracking helps employees stay motivated and focused. 
• Admins customize and promote career goals based on business priorities. 

Learners can select “Grow and advance in my current role” or “Change career path into a new role” as their career goal.  

If an unbound user selects “Grow and advance in my current role” as their career goal, they need to input their current role title. Bound users will not need to input their current role title.

The content within the career development module (‘accelerate your career growth’) will be hand curated at launch and will not reflect the skills a learner follows. 

This feature is part of the learner onboarding flow for LinkedIn Learning, and employees will be prompted to set their goals upon initial account activation and set-up.  

The way this functionality plays out depends on where the learner is accessing the feature from the following entry points: 

• Setting a goal from a custom Role Guide: Ensures the custom role becomes the learner’s career goal 
• Setting from My Career Journey or Onboarding: Only standard roles can be selected—custom roles aren’t supported yet. 
• Viewing goal on homepage: Custom role goals (set via Role Guide) will display. 
• Viewing in Coach: All goals display as standard titles, even if custom. 
• Viewing in My Career Journey: If the goal was set via a custom Role Guide, it will carry over. Otherwise, the standard title persists. 

If learners select Grow and advance in my current career and have connected their LinkedIn account to LinkedIn Learning, their job title will be pulled from their LinkedIn profile. Learners who haven’t connected their accounts might be asked to input their current job title.

Learners who choose to transition to a new career or develop skills to manage teams must input their preferred new role title, regardless of whether their account is connected to their LinkedIn profile.

At this time, no one can see the specific career goal you select on LinkedIn Learning. We share whether you have selected a goal with admins of your organization, but the specific career goal you select remains private to you.
