Explore the Career Goal Setting feature for admins in LinkedIn Learning Career Hub

Last updated: 3 months ago

Who can use this feature?

The Career Goals feature is available to all LinkedIn Learning Career Hub subscribers.  Admins can enable or disable it at any time from the admin portal.

The Career Goal Setting feature helps employees navigate their internal career paths by surfacing career development opportunities based on their unique goals.

Where to find Career Goals

Career Goals live on the My Career Plan page in LinkedIn Learning. Employees can enter their career goals here and view personalized plans tailored to their needs.

How Career Goals work

When Career Goals are enabled, employees can enter a freeform prompt into the system (for example: “I want to grow in my current role,” “I want to build data analysis skills,” or “I want to explore a transition into product management”).

LinkedIn’s AI then generates a preview of a personalized learning plan, including:

  • The skills to focus on
  • The goals to work toward
  • A sequence of learning activities to get started

Employees can edit the preview to refine their goal, or confirm it to generate their full AI-personalized learning plan. Once confirmed, their homepage and My Career Plan page update immediately to reflect their goal.

How Role data customization shapes Career Goals

Career Goals reflect your organization’s custom role data, ensuring employees see development plans that align with your unique job framework if you’ve uploaded it to Career Hub:

  • Today: Custom titles, and taxonomy-matched skills are included in career goal options.
  • By year-end 2025: 100% of customer-uploaded skills (including non-taxonomy skills) will surface in Career Goals, giving employees a fully customized view.

Employees will also see a “Customized by your organization” label when their company’s data is shaping their plan.

What employees can do with Career Goals

With Career Goals, employees can:

  • Enter their own career prompt and receive an AI-personalized plan..
  • Preview, edit, or refine their plan before confirming it.
  • Follow recommended skills aligned to their goals.
  • See updated learning content on their homepage and My Career Plan page.

How admins can enhance Career Goals

Admins can support Career Goals for their employees via several methods:

  • Turn the feature on or off:
    • From the admin portal, navigate to Settings > Customize > Learner features to toggle Career Goals.
  • Mark priority Roles:
    • Admins can highlight up to 10 priority roles in Role Guides.
    • These roles appear under “Try these roles at your company” when employees set up their Career Goals.
    • To mark roles:
  • Promote discoverability:
    • By customizing Role Guides and uploading job data, admins ensure AI-generated plans reflect how their organization defines roles and career pathways.

Tips for learners

  • Be specific when entering a career prompt — the more detail you provide, the more personalized your plan will be.
  • You can refine or reset your goal at any time to adjust your plan.
  • Look for the “Customized by your organization” label to know when your company’s role data is shaping your experience.
