WHEDco is proud and honored to have been awarded a direct grant from the Federal Office of Head Start for our Early Childhood Discovery Center, an established pre-school serving 103 three- and four-year old children and their families. Our new, enhanced funding from the federal government will strengthen our existing program and help us to realize more wholly our promise to improve educational outcomes for children through: - Additional Coaching and Professional Development for Teaching Staff to Strengthen Instruction;  - Responsive On-site Mental Health, Educational, Speech and Occupational Therapy, and Other Special Needs Supports & Services; and  - Greater Pay Equity for Staff. We thank United States Congressman Ritchie Torres, New York State Senator José M. Serrano, New York State Assembly Member Amanda Septimo, and Bronx Borough President Vanessa L. Gibson for supporting this program within their districts. In addition, we are very grateful for the extensive list of people/groups who provided letters of support for our program: - Association to Benefit Children - BronxWorks Health Advisory Committee  - Chances for Children - Institute for Family Health  - Morrisania Health Center  - Mid-Bronx Head Start  - The Rafael Hernandez Dual Language (P.S./M.S. 218)  - Estrellita Ramirez - Karimou Monkaila - Susana Morales  - Deborah Breznay

Congratulations to our President, Davon Russell, on being named a 2024 Nonprofit Trailblazer. The list, presented by City & State and New York Nonprofit Media, recognizes visionary leaders in the nonprofit sector who play an integral role in American society, providing care for the most vulnerable individuals and advocating for policy changes that improve people’s lives. Davon, along with his fellow honorees, will be honored in person at an evening celebration in Manhattan on Wednesday, May 22, with New York City Deputy Mayor for Strategic Initiatives Ana J. Almanzar and Department of Social Services Commissioner Molly Wasow Park as keynote speakers.
