Aging infrastructure. Climate threats. Workforce shortages. According to the 2025 State of the Water Industry Report from the American Water Works Association, these challenges continue to rank among the most pressing concerns for water utilities across the country. So how can utilities adapt and move forward? In her article “Resilience and Strategy in the Water Industry: Navigating Environmental and Economic Challenges,” Margaret McCarthy, P.E. explores how water leaders can strengthen both organizational resilience and strategic decision-making to navigate an increasingly complex landscape. Drawing on leadership research, workforce trends, and real-world industry experience, Margaret outlines how utilities can: • Build resilient teams and workplace cultures • Develop adaptable long-term strategies • Communicate effectively with boards and communities • Prepare the next generation of water professionals Because the future of water utilities depends on more than infrastructure. It depends on people, leadership, and strategic thinking. 👉 Read the full article: https://ow.ly/Q9Up50Z3gBU #WaterIndustry #InfrastructureResilience #WaterUtilities #ClimateAdaptation #WorkforceDevelopment #Leadership Weston & Sampson

The City of Quincy celebrated the successful completion of a multi-year ecosystem restoration for Sailors Home Pond, culminating in a turtle release on May 16, 2026. Mayor Koch, Commissioner of Natural Resources David Murphy, and Heather Lis recently recognized and thanked Weston & Sampson and dredging contractor, ACK Marine, for their contributions to the Sailors Home Pond restoration project in Quincy. Weston & Sampson’s permitting and engineering team supported the project through early planning, permitting, dredging design, and construction efforts. The maintenance dredging project has transformed the pond benefitting Quincy residents and is a healthier, more resilient habitat for local wildlife, including 22 re-homed turtles. Projects like this demonstrate how thoughtful environmental restoration can improve water quality, strengthen habitat, and create long-term community value while enhancing public spaces for future generations. We’re proud to support projects that help communities reconnect with their natural resources. Learn more about our environmental planning: https://lnkd.in/ehrYqT69 Brian McCormack Andrea Spruch, P.E. Flood resilience takes more than recovery efforts. It takes long-term planning, collaboration, and smart infrastructure strategy. Last week, Weston & Sampson's Matthew McGuire, P.E. and Lee Koska, P.E. attended the Solid Waste Association of North America (SWANA) Spring Conference in Myrtle Beach, SC where they connected with industry professionals and discussed innovative approaches to flood resilience, demolition debris management, and materials recycling tied to major resiliency projects across South Carolina. One of those projects includes our work with the South Carolina Office of Resiliency (SCOR) in Bennettsville, SC, where Weston & Sampson is supporting the demolition and site stabilization of 51 repetitive flood loss properties located within the FEMA 100-year floodplain. The project will help reduce long-term flood risk while returning vulnerable areas to green space in perpetuity through HUD CDBG-MIT funding. As part of the effort, our team is also exploring sustainable solid waste and recycling solutions for the large volume of demolition debris generated by the project—helping communities think beyond recovery toward long-term resilience and environmental stewardship. 👉 Learn more about our Stormwater & Flood Resilience Engineering services: https://ow.ly/wCgO50YZLG3 #FloodResilience #HazardMitigation #Stormwater #ClimateResilience #SolidWaste #EnvironmentalEngineering #TransformYourEnvironment Holly Miller

Designing spaces where performance meets experience. Weston & Sampson's Shelby Judd, P.E. and Tim Sheehan contributed to the aquatic design for the indoor resort-style pool and spa at Harrah’s Cherokee Valley River Casino & Hotel, working as a subconsultant to JCJ ARCHITECTURE. From high-rate sand filtration and UV secondary treatment to fully automated systems, the pool and spa were designed to ensure consistent water quality, operational efficiency, and long-term reliability. The project also incorporated advanced strategies to manage air quality and minimize chloramines; enhancing both guest comfort and system performance in a demanding indoor environment.
