It was a great experience to speak at the North American Sustainability & Responsibility Summit (NASRS), where I had the opportunity to share how WD is advancing sustainable circular transformation efforts. A recent study from World Economic Forum, Bain & Company and University of Cambridge shows that most companies believe Circularity is vital and 95% of executives polled expect circularity to soon be part of business models, but only 20% have built circular supply chains! https://lnkd.in/gUbWaEHJ In the past, it has been difficult to recover rare earth from end of life hard drives due to technological limitations, creating challenges to demonstrate sustainable data storage solutions throughout the life cycle of the products. At WD, we collaborated with key stakeholders to pioneer rare earth recovery from data center end of life hard drives. The key success factors were: 1. A steadfast commitment to sustainability; initiating a meaningful project like this that has potential immense environmental contributions and supply chain resiliency implications. 2. A willingness to take charge and become an orchestrator to unite multiple partners to create an ecosystem solution. 3. Our newest early-career Drivers (WD team members) just wrapped two days of connection and momentum at our Early Career Kickoff 🎉 22 team members, 1–6 months into their journey at WD, came together to immerse themselves in our strategy, our technology, and the role they play in powering the future of data. From deep dives on our strategy blueprint and supply chain transformation to a hands-on HDD teardown and conversations about building a meaningful career here, the focus was simple: accelerate growth and build relationships that last. They collaborated on a Rube Goldberg-inspired Domino Effect challenge, assembled ~700 science kits for local schools alongside our partners at Science is Elementary, connected with VPs and senior leaders, and heard from alumni and teams across the business during a Reverse Career Fair. Investing in early talent is investing in our future. And if this kickoff was any indication, the future is bright. 🕶️
