Building next-generation space stations
About us
Vast is developing next-generation space stations to ensure continuous human presence in space for America and its allies, enabling advanced microgravity research and manufacturing, and unlocking a new space economy for government, corporate, and private customers. Using an incremental, hardware-rich and low-cost approach, Vast is rapidly developing its multi-module Haven Station. Haven Demo’s 2025 success made Vast the only operational commercial space station company to fly and operate its own spacecraft. Next, Haven-1 is expected to become the world’s first commercial space station when it launches in 2027, followed by additional Haven modules to enable permanent human presence by 2030. With more than 1,000 employees at its Long Beach, California headquarters and over a billion dollars in private capital invested, Vast has built the facilities required to manufacture and operate America’s next space station. The company plans to develop future habitats for the Moon and Mars, dedicated space stations for government partners, and other crewed systems that will unlock the expanding long-term space economy.

Mission complete. After three months in orbit and 49 tests completed validating critical systems, components, and processes, we have successfully performed a controlled deorbit of Haven Demo, our in-space testbed for Haven-1 technologies. Read more. https://lnkd.in/gBFmd_Cg

Vast is developing and manufacturing Control Moment Gyroscopes (CMGs) in-house at our headquarters in Long Beach, California. CMGs will complement propulsion thrusters to provide attitude control for Haven-1 and future stations, but require forced convective cooling. Here, in our full-scale life support testing module, we are integrating a cooling loop in the airflow path and will conduct tests to ensure nominal temperatures are maintained throughout the missions.

Vast Astronaut Advisor, Megan McArthur, evaluates and provides feedback on the Haven-1 sleep system, designed to address the greatest challenges that hinder sleep in space. The ISS orbits Earth every 90 minutes, creating 16 sunrises and sunsets per day that disrupt circadian rhythms. Haven-1 crew quarters feature lighting systems that follow natural sleep-wake cycles and optimized airflow. Our patent-pending sleep system inflates to provide calming, adjustable pressure to simulate the feeling of gravity on Earth, with an easy-egress zipper. Vast will always prioritize crew health and safety, which is why our industrial design, crew systems, and ECLSS teams worked directly with our astronaut advisors to create a sleep system designed to maximize quality rest and help prevent fatigue-induced errors. Early and iterative human-in-the-loop evaluations such as these are essential to ensuring mission success, safety, and long-term human habitation in space.

The Federal Aviation Administration has made a favorable payload determination for Haven-1 following interagency review with NASA, the State Department, the Commerce Department, and national security stakeholders. This marks another step forward in launching Haven-1, expected to be the world's first commercial station when it is ready to launch in Q1 2027.
