230 million. That’s how many women and girls alive today have undergone female genital mutilation (FGM). This practice has no health benefits and leaves survivors with long-lasting physical and psychological trauma. It persists because of community and cultural norms and beliefs. But there is hope. When we unite for a shared cause, we can drive meaningful change. UN Women Regional Goodwill Ambassador Jaha Dukureh, who is an FGM survivor and works tirelessly to #EndFGM, knows this all too well.
