Is your child ready to read? (And are you ready to help them?) 🧩 As parents, we want to give our kids the best start possible. But the transition from "learning letters and sounds" to "reading books" can feel like a black box. 🔢 How early is too early? 🗣️ What does effective correction actually sound like? Our co-founder, Sebastian, will be presenting a free, in-person, 1-hour workshop in Oakland to help unpack the research on how children actually learn to read. No jargon—just clear, actionable strategies to help your child go from ABCs to a confident reader. ** Childcare will be provided! 📅 Saturday, March 28th @ 10am 📍 912 Clay St, Oakland, CA 94607 (in Swan's Market) Register here: https://lnkd.in/ga7bgBHF #ReadingSkills #DyslexiaAwareness #EarlyLiteracy #OaklandParents #LearnerAgency

Special ed enrollment is going up and to the right very quickly. Parents are scared and district budgets are breaking. What do we do? To start, 33.5% of those students have a specific learning disability and approximately 80-90% of people with a learning disability have dyslexia. So preventing dyslexia seems like a good place to start, especially since we're still grasping at straws on autism, which grew 11% from 2023 to 2024. Here's the good news. Early intervention through explicit reading instruction is essential for preventing dyslexia according to Fletcher, J. M., Lyon, G. R., Fuchs, L., & Barnes, M. in their seminal text, Learning Disabilities: From Identification to Intervention. If you're a school district, for roughly $4-500 per kindergarten student you can provide this type of intervention using your *existing* entry-level elementary school support staff (or even high school CTE students) upskilled on the Once platform. And if you're a parent, please don't roll the dice on your kindergarten providing the necessary interventions. You can teach your own 3-5 year-old child to read (and prevent dyslexia) with Once at home. Sign-up link in comments. Image and data credit: Candace Cortiella

Update on my son’s reading progress with Once Early Literacy Program: - several words are automatic for him now and he no longer needs to sound them out (ex: ‘see’, ‘the’, & ‘raft’) - I was out of town all week for work and we only did 1 lesson this week, but he just picked up where we left off and still retained the words that are automatic for him Interested in teaching a child in your life to read? Send me a DM and I’ll connect you with the right people to help you get started!

One of the coolest experiences I've had as a parent: teaching my daughter to read. We started when she had just turned 4, and it is so much fun to see her working through problems, getting frustrated, trying again, high fiving when she figures something out. I tried a few different books and apps for this, but the one we like best is my friend Sebastian's company, Once If you have a 3-6 year old who is curious about reading, highly recommend checking it out: www.tryonce.com (and yes, reading time is often accompanied by a princess dress, a unicorn horn, and currently, a bright pink cast thanks to a monkey bars incident 😂)

Can 15 minutes a day replace an hour of screen time? 📉➡️📚 Meet one of our Once at Home families. Lucy has two kids under 4. To say she's busy would be an understatement. Yet she chose to carve out 15 minutes a day to teach her then-3-year-old to read. By simply following our scripted lessons for 15 minutes a day, she transformed her 3-year-old’s daily habits. The 6-Month Results: 💪 Confidence: A toddler who now reads 1st-grade content. 💡 Readiness: Fully prepared for Kindergarten (and beyond). 📚 Habit Shift: Choosing independent reading over digital screens. You don't need a degree in education to be your child’s favorite teacher. You just need the right system. If you're interested in learning how to teach your child (3-6) to read at home, I'd love to show you how we do it. Oh, it's pretty fun too 🙂 #EarlyLiteracy #EducationInnovation #ParentingWin #OnceAtHome #FutureReady

Like most parents, I read to my kids every night, but I never thought my 3 year old would be able to read on their own until my friend Brett got us using Once. I’ve been blown away by Jack's progress. But more importantly, it's been one of the most fun things we do together - I love seeing how his little mind works and puts concepts together. If you have a 3-6 year old that you want to teach to read, I can't recommend this app (tryonce.com) more highly!

💬 “Am I doing enough to help my child learn to read?” If you’ve ever wondered this, you’re not alone. Parenting children who love to read independently is a joy. The children always have an off-screen activity readily available, and they are able to learn independently, even when you’re not giving them your full attention. If you are a parent of young children, you may be wondering when they will learn to read. Is it enough to read to them every night? Will they learn to read automatically, or will they have to learn in school? How early is too early to start? How do you know if your child is at risk for dyslexia? We're hosting a free, 1-hour workshop for parents of young children to unpack the research on how children actually learn to read, and what you can do at home. 📚 A clear understanding of how reading actually develops 💡 Confidence about what to focus on (and what to ignore) 💙 Simple, supportive strategies that fit real family life ⏰ Jan. 29th from 10-11 am PST 👉 Register for free here: https://lnkd.in/e4j_gsqk
