Have you heard of the Five Factors of economic and social mobility? Our report challenges the idea that academic success alone is enough to create opportunity. Instead, it outlines a broader vision for what young people need to truly thrive beyond school. The question now is whether our systems are designed to support all five. The future of student success will be shaped by decisions states make right now. Can schools create more coherent learning experiences? Are students connected to real career pathways? Is AI being implemented responsibly? Our blog explores the 3 priorities policymakers can’t afford to ignore. Read more: https://ow.ly/5MlC50Z2s4p

What does building coherence across an entire state actually look like? In Kentucky, it starts with hard questions—and a willingness to rethink how systems show up for teachers and students every day. In our latest blog, Micki Ray Marinelli, Chief Academic Officer for the Department of Education, Commonwealth of Kentucky and our very own Cory Epler, Ph.D., shares how Kentucky built a more coherent vision for early literacy instruction statewide—and what leaders can learn from the process. From alignment to implementation, this conversation offers a real look at what it takes to move systems forward. 🔗 Dive into the full blog: https://ow.ly/ZsEI50Z1Ffk #50MillionFutures #InstructionalCoherence #KentuckyCoherence

We talk a lot about preparing students for what’s next. But what does that actually look like in practice? In Colorado, two schools are piloting an AI-powered career and college coach that helps students connect their interests to real pathways—and make informed decisions about their futures. This is what it looks like to move from access to capability. Learn more: https://lnkd.in/gt9GzJcp

Black. American. Woman. Southern. Rural. Poverty. For too many young people, that list still predicts their future. Dr. Tequilla Brownie, Ed.D., is proof it doesn’t have to. But individual success stories aren’t the goal. Systemic change is. Her TED Talk pushes a harder question: What needs to be true for every child to thrive, not just the ones who beat the odds? 👉🏾 https://lnkd.in/gk7sZ-4p

How would you approach coherence when policy pushes against it? First off, raise your hand if you love curriculum policy. 🖐🏿🖐🏼🖐🏽 Sometimes it’s a bit of a love/hate relationship. But no matter what, policy is essential. The challenge is that it isn’t always built with coherence in mind, which can lead to different materials, conflicting guidance, and limited flexibility at the school level. But even within those constraints, schools still have levers they can control. Learn more: https://ow.ly/OxUi50YNYH5

Have we just accepted that pulling students from class for intervention is the only way? Because it usually means this: They miss the lesson. Then they’re expected to catch up later. That’s a tradeoff. https://ow.ly/OxUi50YNYH5

It’s a common assumption: if students don’t understand something, they need a different explanation. But in Knox County Schools, a different approach wasn’t what helped. In partnership with TNTP, the district aligned tutoring to reinforce classroom instruction instead of introducing new ways of learning the same content. That consistency led to stronger student progress (1.3 additional months of learning in 1 year, to be exact 😉). In Chalkbeat’s recent article, TNTP’s Devon Toth Gadow shares how layering different approaches can unintentionally make learning harder for students. Read the full story: https://lnkd.in/eQgcWWBG
