A growing number of workers who manage to land jobs after layoffs are accepting significantly lower pay, often just to get back in the game. About 40% of job switchers recently took pay cuts of more than 10%, the highest level in about 10 years, per a Revelio Labs' analysis, signaling that leverage has shifted back to employers. Behind the numbers is a tougher reality, though. Long job searches, low savings, and increased competition are pushing candidates to settle. Even with relatively low unemployment, long-term joblessness has almost doubled since 2023, per government data. Companies are also raising the bar, demanding more experience for roles, which further squeezes mid-career professionals trying to reenter the workforce. The bigger risk is that these pay cuts don't just hurt now, they can also follow workers for years since lower salaries can anchor future offers in what's called "wage scarring." But for many, the alternative of staying unemployed is worse, making a smaller paycheck feel like the only way to move forward. 📸: Getty, Business Insider

Who needs happy hour when you can bond over botox injections? Clinics are noticing a rise in group bookings (to the tune of six or more colleagues getting discounted treatments together), per a BI report. Some professionals are even squeezing in injections between meetings or shifts. Behind the trend is a booming aesthetics market and a cultural shift toward radical transparency. McKinsey previously estimated the medical aesthetics market could grow as much as 14% per year through 2026. Social media, celebrity openness, and the rise of "looksmaxxing" are largely to thank for that. They've helped strip away the stigma, turning injectables into just another group activity.
