Why am I launching The Flight Department Show? Because there is no show for flight dept leaders and staff. This will be the only business aviation show that helps you become a better leader…so you can make more money, get your people treated fairly, and stay in the business you love. Many of you know that I’m obsessed with flight dept compensation. But as I expanded my comp reports, I realized there’s a much bigger challenge… we have a leadership crisis in business aviation. The perfect storm... AVBrief's new article is talking about the same maintenance shortage we've been seeing, and expecting to worsen... "A new report by consulting firm Oliver Wyman said a surge in retirement by baby boomers will see 45,000 skilled aviation mechanics leaving the profession over the next 10 years. Was in my local bike shop today getting a few accessories added to my new exercise tool. I saw this sign on the wall and marveled. Bike mechanics are making $110/hour. Yes, I know that’s the house rate and not what the mechanic actually receives, but dang…. This begs the question - what’s the hourly rate you’re paying your maintenance technicians? It ought to be more that what we pay a bike mechanic. Just sayin’…
