Stop us if you've heard this before: Texas has sued a company for privacy violations. Stop us if you've heard this before: Meta got sued for privacy violations. But hey, at least this time the two overlap, right? https://lnkd.in/gJN6H2Fh

What does Girls Gone Wild have to do with Data Protection Officers (DPOs)? Frankly, we're not entirely sure how we got there ourselves. Check out Episode 33 of Privacy Lawls, where we are joined by Lena Kempe to discuss how the role of the DPO has changed with the rise of AI and go through multiple scenarios of how DPOs should handle certain situations. Don't mess with Texas... especially their data. Texas's Attorney General has been busy ever since their privacy law launched in 2024. Netflix is the latest to be accused of collecting consumer and childrens' data illegally. https://lnkd.in/eDK4_N2r

Can you just have AI write your website's Privacy Policy? We get this question all the time from web agencies and web designers. It's also a fair question. The short answer is: not likely. As with most things, AI depends on the user asking all the right questions. It's no different with website policies. To do it correctly, you'd need to specifically ask AI to include specific disclosures associated with specific privacy laws. You also need to have a strong understanding of your business's specific privacy practices. Our president (and attorney), Donata, breaks it down quickly in the following clip.

Data collection sits at the center of modern marketing. Privacy and compliance are quickly becoming just as critical. As regulations evolve and consumers become more aware of how their data is used, businesses face increasing pressure to collect, store, and activate data responsibly. What may seem like simple data collection often carries legal, operational, and reputational implications. On this episode of Deconstructing Data, David Finkelstein and Jessie Lizak are joined by Donata Stroink-Skillrud, Co-founder and President of Termageddon and a data privacy attorney, to explore how organizations can approach data collection with privacy and compliance in mind. Donata brings deep expertise in data privacy law, including GDPR, CCPA, and cybersecurity standards, along with hands-on experience helping businesses implement policies that adapt to changing regulations. Her work focuses on helping companies understand the real impact of data practices and how to build systems that align with both legal requirements and customer expectations. In this conversation, we’ll explore: 1. Collecting Data with Privacy and Compliance 2. Marketing Tools and Data Privacy Risks 3. Understanding Data Privacy Laws and Regulations 4. Tech Stack Join us as we break down how privacy, compliance, and data strategy intersect, and what businesses need to consider as they continue to collect and use customer data.
