A Historic Win: Surfrider’s 1,000th Victory at Surfers’ Point 🌊🎉 We are celebrating a momentous win for our coast: the completion of the Surfers’ Point Managed Retreat Project. For more than 30 years, campaign coordinator Paul Jenkin and the local Surfrider Ventura chapter fought to restore a coastline that had been paved over decades earlier. Against every obstacle — bureaucracy, budget shortfalls, political turnover — they never stopped. The result: a restored coastal dune habitat that will protect this beloved stretch of California shoreline for generations to come. This historic victory is an example of Surfrider at its best: grassroots organizing, fearless leadership, constant pressure, endlessly applied. To our supporters and volunteers—THANK YOU. Your hard work and dedication are the reason we are celebrating this 1,000th victory. 🙌 Join the movement: https://hubs.la/Q0483MKr0

Do you run an equity-focused nonprofit that uses local parks or beaches for programming? A recently enacted law we’ve supported, AB 2939, is designed to make your work easier — reducing time spent navigating permits and fees and increasing time spent doing what matters most: connecting communities to the outdoors. AB 2939 creates a new pathway for eligible nonprofits and Tribes to access local parks and beaches with fewer barriers. The law is intended to expand programming opportunities, reduce administrative hurdles, and make outdoor experiences more accessible for youth and families. If your equity focused organization has ever struggled with complicated permitting processes or high access costs, this info session is for you. Outdoor Outreach, Un Mar de Colores, and PADDLE FOR PEACE invite you to join our upcoming info session to learn how AB 2939 can support your programs and expand equitable access to public outdoor spaces. Thursday, February 26 · 5:00–6:00 PM During the session we’ll cover: • Why this law was created and what it does • Who is eligible • How implementation is taking shape and available resources • Live Q&A RSVP here: https://lnkd.in/g8ipypAF Please share with organizations or partners who may benefit.

We stand against the unjust violence inflicted upon those who are exercising their civic rights. Social justice and environmental protection are inseparable. The violent harassment and recent killing of community members during federal immigration enforcement operations in Minnesota and around the country are deeply disturbing. They demand the full attention of the American public and Congress. The harassment and deaths require truth, accountability, and a sober reckoning on the abuse of power being exercised in our country. The Surfrider Foundation exists to protect our ocean, waves, and beaches — for all people — through civic engagement and advocacy. Critical to Surfrider’s mission are the constitutional guarantees of peaceful assembly, protest, and free speech. Communities that lack political power are the same communities that bear the greatest burden of pollution, climate change, and environmental harm. We cannot protect public resources, public access, or public health in a society where the government routinely violates constitutional rights, ignores due process requirements, lies to the people it should serve, and uses state violence without accountability. We must be able to speak out about the issues that are important to us, without fear for our lives. A society that fails to protect civil liberties cannot effectively protect the environment we all depend on. America is a nation born of immigrants, strengthened by its diversity. While imperfect, the ideal of America stands for liberty, freedom, and opportunity for all. Our democracy is strongest when it chooses transparency over secrecy, accountability over impunity, and compassion over cruelty. Surfrider will continue to stand in solidarity with communities demanding justice, defending civil liberties, and working toward a future where both people and the planet are protected with integrity and care — without fear, without violence, and without exception.
