Sometimes you just report the story. And sometimes, you become part of the story. As Sensor Tower celebrates our Company Kickoff this week in #Barcelona, the massive power outage across #Spain, #Portugal, and parts of #France put our team in the center of the storm. But, what happened across mobile during the blackout? Users shifted their mobile app behavior in real time…and we captured it. 🇪🇸 X saw a spike in usage in Spain, though time spent per session declined. 📉 Temu's usage and time spent both dropped. 🍭 #CandyCrush DAUs increased (people were bored!) but users spent about the same amount of time in-app. 📞 WhatsApp usage spiked at the beginning and end of the outage, showing how people turned to messaging to stay connected. Temu's domination of the U.S. retail market has come to a screeching halt...for now. As the Chinese eCommerce giant freezes ad spend in the states in the face of pressing macroeconomic concerns (👋 tariffs), here are five fast facts that unpack what's going on: 1️⃣ Temu’s Facebook ad spend (>50% of its U.S. budget) dropped 99% from April 6–19 2️⃣ Daily Facebook impressions also plummeted 99% during that window 3️⃣ U.S. app downloads are down 63% in the past 30 days (Mar 23–Apr 21) 4️⃣ Temu fell from #5 to #83 on the overall App Store chart 5️⃣ Within the Shopping category, it slid from #1 to #9
