Research and Education for a Better Society
About us
Sage is a global academic publisher of books, journals, and library resources with a growing range of technologies to enable discovery, access, and engagement. Believing that research and education are critical in shaping society, 24-year-old Sara Miller McCune founded Sage in 1965. Today, we are controlled by a group of trustees charged with maintaining our independence and mission indefinitely. Driven by the belief that social and behavioral science has the power to improve society, we focus on publishing impactful research and enabling robust research methodology. We produce high-quality educational resources that support instructors to prepare the citizens, policymakers, educators and researchers of the future. Sage is committed to building an inclusive organization where all individuals are treated with fairness and respect, regardless of age, ability, gender, marriage and partnership status, pregnancy and parental responsibilities, race, religion and belief, socio-economic background, or sexual orientation. Diversity is one of the cornerstones of a vibrant culture and we are undertaking work to build a Sage that is more equitable and representative of the communities we serve and of which we are part. As well as driving change within Sage, we are also passionate about supporting diversity, equity and inclusion in wider society through our publishing activities. Opportunity: We’re seeking an outstanding new Chair for the Campaign for Social Science! The Campaign is an integral part of the Academy and leads on its public-facing advocacy for social science. It plays a particularly important role in advocacy with the policy communities in the UK Government and devolved nations to make greater use of social science evidence in policymaking. The Campaign has made great strides over the past six years, under Professor Bobby Duffy as Chair, with a significant increase in its presence, profile, engagement and outputs. Its focus over this time has been on showcasing applied social science and its ability to change lives, enhance society and shape policy. Therefore, the role of Chair of the Campaign for Social Science is an important opportunity to shape the future of the Campaign’s work, and to grow its impact, as part of the Academy’s 2024-29 strategy, and beyond. The duties of the Campaign Chair include being a figurehead for the Campaign and advocating for its work among a wide range of audiences, including the UK and devolved governments and public bodies; representing and speaking on behalf of the Campaign at key events; developing the Campaign’s strategic vision; supporting the Campaign’s fundraising endeavours; chairing the Campaign’s Board; and contributing to the Academy’s governance as a senior Trustee of the Council. The appointment is for an initial term of three years from July 2026, renewable by mutual consent for a further three years. It is an unremunerated, volunteer role. ⏰ Applications close on Tuesday 7 April 2026.
