Last week I had the opportunity to participate in Richmond Behavioral Health Foundation's Board retreat at the beautiful Maymont Nature Center led by Blue Octopus Consulting. I have attended many retreats and team building exercises over the years, but I can truly say that this retreat, by far, was the most engaging. We started the day with lunch, introductions and a word to represent our time together. I chose "strengthen" because that was the intention of our board when we agreed to bring in Blue Octopus – to strengthen our skills as board members, to strengthen our board as a whole and to strengthen our support of the people served by RBHA. For the remainder of the afternoon we: -Defined what our Foundation is and is not -Assessed where we are in the nonprofit lifecycle -Read through real-life board scenarios in small groups and began drafting tenets for our partnership with Blue Octopus -Learned about the three Modes of Governance and identified the type we each want to focus on for the next year But our journey with Blue Octopus didn’t end with the retreat, it was just the start. For the next 12 months, Blue Octopus will join us at board and committee meetings for focused learning segments. At this time next year, we’ll reassess our place in the nonprofit lifecycle and see how far we’ve come. Until then, I’m excited for the journey!

Yesterday afternoon, RBHA team members had the honor of attending the ribbon cutting for Bellevue Gardens, a new deeply affordable housing community in Richmond’s Northside. This milestone represents more than new housing - it reflects what’s possible when local, state, and federal partners come together to address one of our community’s most urgent challenges. Bellevue Gardens is a powerful example of collaboration in action and a meaningful step forward in expanding access to safe, affordable housing in Richmond. We’re grateful to be part of a community committed to solutions that make a lasting difference. #community #affordablehousing #fearless

At RBHA, our data tells a clear story - and the situation is becoming more urgent. Even under normal conditions, many individuals we serve report: • Skipping meals due to lack of money • Housing instability • Difficulty paying for basic utilities These challenges directly impact health outcomes, treatment engagement, and long-term stability. With recent changes to SNAP requirements, we are now seeing an increase in individuals losing access to food assistance - due to no longer meeting eligibility requirements and administrative barriers. The result: growing food insecurity and increased strain on an already vulnerable population. In response, the Richmond Behavioral Health Foundation is expanding its efforts through: • A community-wide food drive initiative • Corporate partnerships to scale resources • Increased community engagement and volunteer opportunities We are actively seeking partners who want to make a measurable local impact. If you or your organization is interested in supporting food access, employee engagement, or community health, we would welcome the opportunity to connect. 👉 Learn more / get involved: https://conta.cc/4cLpMCo #CorporateResponsibility #CommunityImpact #FoodSecurity #BehavioralHealth
