The Office of Space Commerce has released our updated proposal for space "mission authorization." In Executive Order 14335, “Enabling Competition in the Commercial Space Industry,” President Trump directed the Department of Commerce to develop a process to authorize commercial activities in space not clearly or straightforwardly governed by existing regulations – everything from satellite servicing to commercial space stations and manufacturing on the Moon. Our proposal aims to expedite and streamline today’s laborious and sometimes duplicative system for regulating the commercial space industry with a consolidated space commerce certification process. Our new “Space Commerce Certification” can get companies to “yes” with predictability and speed, allowing them to swiftly explore new technologies and missions to bring benefits to the American economy. With the release of our proposal, the Office of Space Commerce continues to seek stakeholder input and feedback. Don’t hesitate to contact us via email at Space.Commerce@noaa.gov, with the email title “Feedback – Mission Authorization Proposal.” For more information, to download the proposal, and to submit feedback, visit our website at: https://lnkd.in/ejA3VU5c #SpaceEconomy

Mark your calendar! On Thursday, April 9, the NOAA: National Oceanic & Atmospheric Administration's Commercial Data Program (CDP) will host a virtual status update to the community on future plans for the program. Presenters will offer information on CDP objectives to support NOAA’s observational requirements, including data pilot projects for microwave soundings and wildfire imagery and expanding operational data purchases. Questions from the community will be taken live and moderated. For more information and to access the registration link, visit: https://lnkd.in/e8NcvvQk NOAA’s Commercial Data Program (CDP) assesses and acquires space-based observational weather data from the private sector to improve NOAA’s weather forecasts and explore ways to meet mission requirements more efficiently. The program consists of two lines of effort: Commercial Data Pilots demonstrate the quality and impact of commercial data on NOAA forecast models; and Commercial Data Purchases support operational weather forecasting.
