  • Recently, the Patient Experience Book Club welcomed Reginald Dwayne Betts, Esq., CEO and Founder of Freedom Reads, for a conversation about his extraordinary journey—from a troubled teenager who served time in maximum-security prison, to a Yale Law School graduate, and now a poet, father, and advocate.   His mantra is simple and powerful: Freedom begins with a book.   His mission is equally ambitious: to place a book in every prison in America—matching the number of incarcerated individuals, which is over one million.   Betts spoke candidly about how books, often smuggled into solitary confinement, sustained him throughout nine years of incarceration, and how essential community became to his life after release. He also shared deeply personal experiences, including his mother’s traumatic assault, and how it shaped his understanding of harm, accountability, and humanity—even for those who, like him, had been incarcerated.   He reflected on the challenges of reintegration, including the reality that an Ivy League law degree did not automatically open doors to practicing law. Yet he persevered, ultimately becoming a practicing attorney, a devoted father, and the driving force behind bringing beautifully crafted wooden bookshelves filled with literature into prisons across the country.   His story is a powerful reminder that there is no single narrative of what it means to be human.

  • Achieving Magnet® designation once is a tremendous honor, but sustaining this elite standard for a third consecutive time at NYU Langone Hospital—Long Island is a powerful testament to our teams' unwavering commitment to world-class patient care. During the recent site visit, surveyors noted that they experienced an authentic, lived culture aligned with Magnet principles in every single encounter with our clinical nurses. It is this dedication, professionalism, and expertise that truly defines the care we deliver every day. While Magnet celebrates nursing excellence, an accomplishment of this magnitude is a true reflection of the deep interdisciplinary collaboration across our entire organization. Thank you to our nurses, physicians, and every team member who came together to share their work, stories, and pride during the survey. Congratulations to Lauren Stoerger, DNP, RN, NEA-BC, CCRN, Dr. Joseph Greco, and the entire Long Island team for this phenomenal milestone. What an extraordinary way to round out Nurses Month!

  • In recognition of National Nurses Month, we’re proud to shine a spotlight on a few of our many outstanding nurses who embody this year’s theme, “The Power of Nurses.” Meet Amber, RN at NYU Langone at Trinity, an endocrinology nurse dedicated to patient advocacy, education, and compassionate, consistent care. She shares her nursing journey and how she continues to exceed expectations every day. Many of her patients are managing chronic conditions such as diabetes and thyroid disorders, or undergoing hormone-related treatments. Endocrinology nursing, she says, requires consistency, clear communication, and compassion—especially for patients managing long-term conditions. “I love that this job allows me to help people affected by chronic illness and pain,” Amber says. “I can guide them, advocate for them, and make a meaningful impact on their everyday lives.” Join our dedicated team and make a real difference: https://lnkd.in/eKuD57EZ #NursesMonth #NYULangoneNurses

  • In recognition of National Nurses Month, we’re proud to shine a spotlight on a few of our many outstanding nurses who embody this year’s theme, “The Power of Nurses.” Meet Kathleen, BSN, RN at NYU Langone Health’s Perlmutter Cancer Center and a DAISY Award recipient. She knew from a young age that nursing was her calling, and she brings that lifelong passion to every patient she cares for. Even with advances in cancer treatment, a diagnosis can still feel overwhelming and life-changing. Kathleen understands this deeply and takes time to listen—addressing her patients’ fears, questions, and emotional needs while guiding them through complex care. For Kathleen, nursing is grounded in compassion and commitment: showing up fully and going the extra mile for every patient, every time. “It’s a simple answer,” she says, “but it’s what I feel in my heart—and why nursing is the only thing I’ll ever want to do.” Join Kathleen and make an impact! https://lnkd.in/eKuD57EZ #NursesMonth #NYULangoneNurses
