NGOsource helps U.S. grantmakers streamline their international giving through easier equivalency determinations.

About us

NGOsource, a program of TechSoup initially launched in collaboration with the Council on Foundations, helps U.S. grantmakers streamline their international giving through easier equivalency determinations and other localized and NGO-specific vetting mechanisms. NGOsource simplifies the task of evaluating whether a non-U.S. organization is the equivalent of a U.S. public charity — a process known as equivalency determination or ED. Our global reach, legal expertise, and standardized methodology enable a thorough, accurate analysis in compliance with IRS regulations. http://www.ngosource.org

This is an exceptionally challenging time for civil society organizations in Latin America. It’s easy enough for donors or outside observers to call for organizations to “reinvent themselves” but what does this actually look like in practice? And what kind of support makes it possible? I can’t think of a better case study than Fabretto Children's Foundation, which after decades of work in rural Nicaragua was forced to rethink its entire model in 2022. Fabretto's annual report, which landed in my inbox today, shows how far they have come since then – in part by reimagining themselves not only as a direct service organization, but as a hub of distinctive expertise that enhances the impact of like-minded organizations. We are delighted and grateful to see Fabretto partnering with two Tinker grantees: Asociación Q'eqchi' Xch'ool Ixim (Heart of Corn) (Guatemala) and Un Mundo (Honduras). “We reaffirmed our commitment to Fabretto’s core mission since Padre Fabretto first arrived in Nicaragua: serving children and youth by creating opportunities for them to thrive. How and where we work has changed, but we continue to give life to his spirit of service across Guatemala and Honduras.” Fabretto’s Executive Director Kevin Marinacci tells the story of this transformation - and the critical role played by a few key donors - in a recent Alliance Magazine piece (link in comments). Philanthropy in Latin America and the Caribbean is being reshaped by funding shifts, inequality, and growing social and environmental pressures. Our latest report, ‘Tendencias de Filantropía en América Latina y el Caribe’, developed with members of the WINGS Latin America and the Caribbean Working Group, identifies eight trends shaping the region’s philanthropic ecosystem – from funding diversification and community philanthropy to #ClimateJustice, human mobility, and innovative finance. To make these insights more accessible, we’ve prepared an explainer in English highlighting the key findings and trends. Read it here: https://ow.ly/O9KN50YxUYR Together, these trends point to a sector that is becoming more locally rooted, collaborative, and adaptive, while navigating increasing volatility, political complexity, and structural inequality. みんなのコード、米国のNGOsourceが提供するED認証を取得しました。/ Code for Everyone,a specified non-profit organization has obtained the Equivalency Determination (ED) certification provided by NGOsource in the United States. ED certification streamlines the procedures required for U.S.-based donors and grantmaking organizations to make contributions to our organization. With this recognition, Code for Everyone will continue to advance our mission— to foster a society where anyone can create —by collaborating with funding partners both in Japan and abroad. * ED Certification (Equivalency Designation) Equivalency Determination is a system through which a U.S. grantmaking organization can verify that a foreign non-profit operates in a manner equivalent to a U.S. public charity. A third-party organization conducts the review and certifies eligibility. NGOsource, which administers this process, has provided certification to more than 23,000 organizations across 161 countries. Once certified, organizations benefit from simplified compliance procedures related to U.S. charitable contributions and grants. U.S. donors and grantmakers can provide funding with confidence, knowing that the recipient organization meets rigorous standards for transparency and accountability. https://lnkd.in/g5puVeYs

🎉 Exciting news: Global Impact UK and GI Canada have both received Equivalency Determination status from NGOsource! This recognition follows our completion of rigorous compliance requirements and confirms that both organizations (which are independent, registered charities in their respective countries) operate as equivalents of trusted U.S. public charities, streamlining the process for U.S. funders to give to both organizations. 🌍 Interested in soliciting and receiving donations from the UK or Canada?
