  • Teacher collaboration just got more practical. Custom Student Tools allows educators to build custom AI-powered student tools once, then share them across their entire organization. When one teacher creates an effective AI tutor or writing coach, every colleague can now access and adapt it. No rebuilding. No duplicate work. Teachers have already built AI tutors for all subjects, writing feedback tools with custom rubrics, historical figure chatbots, and adaptive learning experiences. The workflow is straightforward: create a custom tool, save it to your library, share it with your organization, and other teachers can immediately use or adapt it for their students. This addresses something we kept hearing from schools: great ideas were staying trapped in individual classrooms. When another teacher wanted something similar, they had to start from scratch. That's wasted effort. Custom Student Tools is available now for MagicSchool users. Teachers and admins can create, save, edit, and share custom AI-powered student tools across their schools and districts.

  • A Colorado teacher recently watched one student completely transform her writing with the help of an AI chatbot. What stood out was that it wouldn’t give her the answer. Instead, it kept asking questions and encouraging her to keep going. Draft after draft, the student worked through her ideas until she landed on a conclusion her teacher said he wouldn’t have expected to see in years prior. Stories like this are a powerful reminder that when AI is used thoughtfully, it can help students stay engaged in the learning process instead of stepping around it. • We're running Fast Track to Pioneers again tomorrow night at 7pm ET. We launched this in March and it was a huge hit. The goal was simple: give busy educators everything they need to apply for Pioneers in one focused session instead of piecing it together over multiple evenings. It worked. So we're doing it quarterly now. Tomorrow's session covers MagicSchool's core features, walks through practical classroom use cases, and explains how to navigate the Pioneer application process. You leave with a Certificate of Completion and a clear path to submitting your application. If you've been interested in joining Pioneers but haven't found the time to complete the requirements, this session compresses everything into one hour. • Did you miss our latest MagicDrop? We shipped five updates last week. Here is a quick rundown if you missed it. Custom student tools let schools build and share AI-powered tools across their organization. District leaders can create once, the whole district can use it. The podcast generator now creates full episodes with script, professionally produced audio, and cover art. Tool cards got a visual refresh for middle and high school classrooms. Cleaner icons, better suited to older students. Math rendering improvements mean equations and expressions actually carry over cleanly when you export to Google Docs or print. And the quiz tool now supports 3-7 answer options per question instead of locking you into four. More flexibility for different question types. All direct responses to teacher feedback 💜 Check out the full blog and video at the link in the comments.

  • We moderate millions of student messages every month to help schools keep students safe. In K–12, the systems behind student safety monitoring need to be accurate and reliable. If teachers get flooded with false alarms, they stop trusting what they’re seeing. If a serious concern gets missed, a student may not get support when they need it most. With Anthropic, our AI Trust, Safety, and Quality team built a Claude-powered moderation layer that reduced false positives tied to self-harm and mental distress signals by 3x. Now when a teacher gets an alert, there’s much more confidence that it’s something worth paying attention to and acting on. In this Q&A, MagicSchool team members Keanon O'Keefe and Chris Rohlfs share why precision matters so much in school settings and how we approach student safety at scale. • Talent Tuesdays! ⭐🚀 Tips for interviewing at MagicSchool AI (from the team that runs it) If you're in our process - or prepping for any interview, really - a few things that actually move the needle: - STAR is the frame. Ownership is the point. Situation, Task, Action, Result gives you structure. But what we're really listening for is your action - not your team's, not your org's. The candidates who stand out take clear personal ownership of the outcome, good or bad. - One great story beats three okay ones (aka depth, not breadth). If you're summarizing three different experiences to answer one question, stop. Pick the one you know best and go deep. Our interviewers are trained to follow up - give them something worth following up on. Specificity is what separates a good answer from a great one! - Your questions are part of the interview. We reserve 5-10 minutes at the end of every conversation for yours - being prepared for this section and showing curiosity goes a long way! Come with something real. - The process is structured on purpose. Every interviewer is evaluating specific competencies & asking consistent questions - not just vibing. You're walking into a conversation designed to give you the best shot at showing what you can actually do as it ties back to the role! - Lastly, use AI to prep! See what questions it can come up with to give you a rough idea of what we may ask - we're working on an AI practice interview to share out more broadly, and in the meantime, use it to the fullest by practicing!

“What do we tell families about screen time?” Karisa Schwanekamp, a solutions architect and former educator with 21 years in the classroom, heard that question again and again from district leaders in Chicago last month. Families are asking thoughtful questions about AI in schools, and educators want clear talking points, trusted research, and practical ways to guide those conversations with confidence. For leaders wondering where to start, Karisa shared 5 helpful tips for talking about screen time, AI, and educational technology with families and communities.
