  • Lawyers are doing a job that shouldn't exist. So are accountants. Not the client work, the strategy, the complex research. That work was built for humans. We mean the other one, the "second job" that starts when the real work ends. That job? Timekeeping. That changes today. We've launched a suite of new features that makes timekeeping faster, easier, and more accurate than ever before. Now, Laurel anticipates what you're working on and what you'll bill for, so all that’s left is to review. It’s AI that does your time for you. The traditional arrangement is backwards. Machines are supposed to document work for humans, not the other way around. That's the problem Laurel was built to fix. It's time to quit your second job.

At Quiss, we believe that for technology to truly stick, it must work with the grain of human behavior, not against it. I’ve shared a document below that explores the "Measurement Trap" and the four principles we use to ensure digital transformation actually delivers value to the individual user, not just the firm’s reporting. Key Takeaways from the Document: The Rational Choice: If a user understands a tool and still doesn't use it, they’ve made a rational decision based on what they value most. Identity Anxiety: Technology that mimics expertise can feel like a threat to a professional's hard-won identity. The Power of Capture: Why tools like Laurel succeed by helping lawyers "win" within their existing performance systems rather than fighting them. User-First Value: Great tools like Waze provide immediate personal benefit, making organizational data a useful by-product rather than the primary goal.

How can AI eliminate one of the most frustrating parts of knowledge work: tracking and reporting time? In this podcast hosted by iDonate VP Product & Engineering Nacho Andrade, Laurel Chief Product Officer Jiaona Zhang (JZ) discusses how #AI can automatically capture and classify how professionals spend their time, turning everyday activity into structured insights. The conversation explores how AI agents can automate tedious workflows like timesheets while helping product teams move faster, stay grounded in user problems, and rethink leadership in an AI-native organization. • Anyone can say they're an AI-first company. We wanted to prove it. Being AI-first means building a culture where every function—not just engineering—develops real intuition about what AI can and can't do in their domain. At our recent offsite, we put that to the test with a company-wide hackathon. Every function, one room, a few hours to go from idea to working prototype. Some of the ideas that surfaced: ✦ An AI agent that runs quality checks and security scans overnight ✦ A dev workflow where engineers review rather than drive every step ✦ An incident response agent that gives on-call engineers a meaningful head start ✦ A "Company OS" that makes your best people's workflows available to everyone Beyond the prototypes, every team left with better instincts about where AI actually adds value in their work. Organizations building that muscle right now will define what comes next.

There’s something powerful about getting the right people in a room and watching relationships and community build in real time. Earlier this week, I had the pleasure of hosting Black leaders in the legal industry at Tatiana by Chef Kwame with my Laurel colleagues Heran M. and Sasha W.. The quality of the conversation was only matched by the quality of the food (which is as great as advertised), and it was only fitting that the shared pain of manual timekeeping found its way into the discussion. Grateful for everyone who showed up and made it special. More of these to come, and if you would like a seat at the table or are thinking about automating timekeeping at your firm, please reach out to me!

  • Most enterprises are optimizing the wrong work. And AI is making that problem worse. Here's why: the median professional works 55 hours a week and submits 39.5. Three hours a day of real work, real value, invisible to every system, report, and dashboard you rely on. Strategic decisions, capacity plans, AI investments. All built on less than 75% of what's actually happening. On April 8, Eric Zaarour is hosting a 30-min session introducing Work Intelligence, the missing layer that changes how senior operators think about productivity, AI investment, and where value is actually being created. 🔗 Register here: https://hubs.ly/Q047rzHP0

Building something exceptional starts with the right people. That's always been our belief at Laurel, and our newest team members are proof of it. We're thrilled to welcome Jason Li as our Chief Technology Officer. Jason brings deep engineering expertise from his time scaling Ironclad and building data intelligence at RelateIQ. He's joining to lead our technical vision as we move beyond automated timesheets toward a full work intelligence platform. Also joining the team is the founding crew behind Braid, former Facebook and TikTok engineers who built powerful data aggregation and workflow intelligence tools. They're stepping in to lead product and engineering on Signal. Together, this team will power Signal, Laurel's work intelligence platform that helps professional services firms understand the true relationship between time, value, and revenue. https://lnkd.in/eEcxuxK6
