ISI advances sustainable infrastructure using Envision to provide education, training, and project verification.
About us
ISI advances sustainable and resilient infrastructure using the Envision framework to provide education, training, and project verification. The Envision Sustainable Infrastructure Framework is deployed by people and projects throughout North America and internationally and is applicable to every type of civil infrastructure: water, transportation, energy, waste, land/environmental, and more. OUR HISTORY: Based in Washington, DC, ISI was established in 2010 by the three largest engineering associations — the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE), the American Council of Engineering Companies (ACEC), and the American Public Works Association (APWA). ISI collaborated with the Zofnass Program for Sustainable Infrastructure at the Harvard University Graduate School of Design to develop Envision.

💧The Sunol Valley Water Treatment Plant Ozonation Project has been verified Envision Silver for sustainable infrastructure! The project makes numerous achievements for sustainability and resilience in the area of quality of life, leadership, resource allocation, climate and resilience and the natural world. Congratulations to the entire project team, including owner San Francisco Public Utilities Commission and lead ENV SP firm CDM Smith. The project will improve water quality for the San Francisco Public Utility Commission’s 2.7 million Bay Area residential, commercial, and industrial customers by implementing a raw water ozonation system to mitigate taste and odor events. The project will also deliver on several secondary objectives such as additional primary disinfection with ozone as part of a multi-barrier disinfection strategy alongside the existing disinfection process, improved treatment reliability, additional control of chlorinated disinfection by-products, and oxidation of emerging contaminants. Among the Envision-verified achievements, this project will provide significant benefit to the community. The plant supplies treated water to the San Francisco Regional Water System, which serves as a critical resource for the Bay Area. The Bay Area Water Supply and Conservation Agency (BAWSCA) provides regional water planning and conservation services through this system, supporting over 1.8 million residents and more than 40,000 businesses across 26 member agencies in Alameda, Santa Clara, and San Mateo counties.
