This class is personal for me. I have spent years working with employers and watching talented young professionals stumble over things that were completely avoidable — not because they were unmotivated or unprepared for the work, but because no one had taught them how to navigate the workplace. Now my own children are this age, and I see it through both lenses: as a professional and as a parent. Our kids are smart and capable, but they don’t always know what they don’t know. Have your student join me for Intern 101. I’ll be sharing real stories and practical guidance to help them start their summer internship with confidence. https://lnkd.in/ekBME68t

I created Intern 101 because I kept seeing the same thing happen. Smart, capable students would show up to internships excited and ready to work — and then get tripped up by things no one had ever explained to them. Someone has to teach them how to ask a good question, how to handle feedback, how to write a professional email, how to handle themselves at happy hour. These aren't "common sense" skills. And now that my own kids are this age, the gap is even more obvious to me - and the colleges aren't teaching it. Our students are talented and are prepared in so many ways. But the workplace has its own language, its own expectations, its own unwritten rules. That's what Intern 101 is about. I'll be sharing real stories, practical guidance, and the kind of advice I wish every student heard before walking into a summer internship. If you have a college student starting an internship this summer — I'd love for them to join me. 📌 For students: walk in with more confidence. 📌 For parents: help them show up prepared. Your college students are finishing finals and heading home for summer internships, or they are preparing for their first post-graduation jobs. Are they prepared for the current workplace? Will they know what a "healthy" work environment and when behavior that people seem to tolerate is really not ok? Let us help prepare them. https://lnkd.in/e6K8yAPp

You said yes to the intern. Maybe happily. Maybe as a favor. Maybe because HR assigned one to your team before you could think too hard about it. Either way, they’re starting soon. We are offering a 90-minute session for managers who want the internship to go well — and also want the intern to be genuinely useful. We’ll talk about how to structure the first week, set expectations, give feedback, handle the awkward situations, and help the intern contribute in a way that actually helps the team. A good internship takes some thought. Let’s do that thinking in advance. https://lnkd.in/eKYuSSxj

Parents of college students — and college students heading into summer internships: Some of the most important internship skills are the ones no one teaches. How to communicate with a manager. How to take feedback. How to read the room. How to handle work social events. Intern 101 is a 90-minute virtual class in May for students heading into summer internships who want to be prepared for the workplace, not just the work. Come join us! https://lnkd.in/eHtaBjFW For students: walk in with more confidence. For parents: help them start strong.

The hardest part of managing a performance issue is knowing what to actually say. Most small business owners wing it and then spend weeks wondering if they handled it right. And then spend weeks being annoyed when the behavior doesn't improve. Our workshop is next Friday. Come spend an hour with us and leave with language and tools you can use the same day. I've watched small business owners handle performance issues every way imaginable. Ignore it too long. Overreact. Say something in the moment they wish they could take back. Document nothing, and then realize that they really should have documented everything. It's not because they're bad managers. It's because nobody ever showed them a simple process for managing performance. That's what we're doing on April 17. If you run a small business and have even one person on your team giving you pause right now, come join us. It’s worth an hour of your Friday.
