Our Partnerships Manager Tierra Gunther recently attended a photography exhibit by Kids With Cameras founder Diana Kahrim, whose incredible work celebrates storytelling, heritage, and identity. Since 2022, Kids With Cameras has partnered with HFH to bring photography lessons to kids in our Afterschool programs. Through these lessons, students learn photography techniques, explore visual storytelling, and build confidence through creative expression. They also have the opportunity to showcase their work in a final exhibit for their families. We are grateful for our ongoing partnership with Kids With Cameras and for the meaningful opportunities it creates for the kids at HFH family residences. Read more: https://bit.ly/3Q6jxSx
About us
HFH operates shelters for families experiencing homelessness in NYC. Our family residences are more than just a place to sleep. Families can make the most of their stay through accessing an array of onsite programs. Many of these programs are also available to people living in the local community. Our goal is to have a positive impact so families can thrive long after they leave our shelters. On any given day, 720 families with 780 children reside in our six family residences in the Bronx, Manhattan, Queens, and Staten Island.

Volunteers from American Eagle Outfitters Inc. stopped by Saratoga to help get the Early Ed and Afterschool gardens ready to bloom for summer! 🌻🌱 They planted perennials, sunflowers, and other colorful flowers to brighten up the outdoor spaces. The little ones in Early Ed were excited to see the fresh flowers growing and stopped outside to thank the volunteers and help water the new plants. A big thank you to our new and longtime friends at American Eagle for their hard work and generous donation in support of our programming! #aefoundationgivebackdays #SaratogaAfterschool #SaratogaEarlyEd

Our Executive Director John Henry Greenwood recently attended the Queen’s Reading Room Roundtable at The New York Public Library alongside leaders in the literary, publishing, education communities for an event hosted by Her Majesty Queen Camilla. The Queen’s Reading Room champions the power of books and reading while partnering with non-profits—including homelessness and domestic violence organizations—helping connect people through reading and bringing books into spaces where they are needed most. We’re honored to be part of the broader conversation around literacy, education, and the power of reading to strengthen communities.

Last week, Prospect hosted a book fair where kids and their families stopped by to browse books for all ages and interests.📚 Book fairs are a regular part of programming at our family residences because literacy is such an important part of how kids learn and grow. Making books accessible—and giving kids the chance to explore and choose what interests them—helps build engagement with reading and supports long-term learning.
