My new blog is out today, featuring fresh data from our Fireblocks 2026 Financial Grid APAC report. 69% of institutions in the region are live or in client-facing pilots. Budget commitment reached 62% before the year began. Both numbers are meaningful. But what the data actually shows is a sequencing story. APAC is the only region where custody leads the use case priority ranking. That is not a conservative call. Custody determines what every other digital asset use case can run on. The institutions that made that decision early are not waiting for production to arrive. They are already in it. Which brings the real next question into focus. Interoperability is a problem no one solved during the innovation phase because it did not matter at pilot scale. But it is the problem that defines whether you can scale in 2026 and beyond. Which blockchains, which custodians, which exchanges, which regulatory perimeters your infrastructure can connect to is now a live commercial constraint, not a future consideration. KRWQ, the world's first offshore Korean won stablecoin, is now available on Fireblocks via Base. Fireblocks serves over 2,400 institutions globally — including BNY, Galaxy, Revolut, and Worldpay — and has secured more than $14 trillion in digital asset transactions. Institutional counterparties can now custody and transfer KRWQ directly within their existing infrastructure. Supported use cases include exchange settlement, market making, treasury management, cross-border payments, and onchain FX trading. The Korean won ranks among the most actively traded currencies in the world, yet has remained underrepresented in digital asset markets. KRWQ's growing institutional footprint is designed to close that gap — bringing Korean won liquidity into the broader onchain financial system. The conversations I have with European banks have changed. A year ago: regulation was the leading topic. Today: operational focus. What to build first, and how fast to get to production. The Financial Grid Europe & The UK data backs that up. 99% of continental European institutions and 100% of UK institutions expect the regulatory direction to be favourable. They’re not waiting for permission. What’s interesting is how the entry points differ by region: - Continental Europe is prioritizing stablecoins, using MiCA as the exact build spec. Qivalis is the clearest example of this. 37 major financial institutions (including BNP Paribas, BBVA, UniCredit, and ING) collaborating on shared, MiCA-compliant euro stablecoin infrastructure. - The UK is taking a different path. Tokenized deposits are the standout focus here at 54%, reinforced by the GBTD industry initiative. UK banks are actively building out the capability before the formal framework lands. The destination is the same. The sequencing isn’t.
