Esri reposted this
Before countries can act together, they need some understanding of what is actually happening. That’s where a map can become much more than a map. Jack Dangermond, Founder and President of Esri, describes maps as a kind of “storytelling language”. A way to see complex problems, establish a shared picture and even make clearer where we agree and where we don’t. At the OSCE in Vienna, he joined diplomats and experts to explore what that could mean for cooperative security. Technology won’t replace diplomacy. But sometimes, seeing the same picture is where cooperation starts. More 👉 https://bit.ly/4gZkZko

When residents reported dropped calls, the City of Rancho Mirage wanted answers backed by data. Using GIS, the city mapped wireless signal strength across the community, uncovered coverage gaps that weren't visible in carrier maps, and identified opportunities for future infrastructure improvements. The resulting Wireless Master Plan is helping guide investments, streamline collaboration with carriers, and support better service for residents. Conservation planning is about seeing both what's protected today and what needs protection tomorrow. Using the updated Global Hexagons for Biodiversity and Conservation layer in ArcGIS Living Atlas, users can analyze biodiversity patterns, species richness, ecosystems, and more. In this example, a bivariate map highlights where existing protected areas intersect with areas identified as high priorities for future protection, providing valuable context for conservation strategies and 30×30 goals.
