We recently hosted a panel session in Amsterdam with leaders from Adyen, TESCO, OLX, and Booking.com. A few of our takeaways from the conversation: - Since coding represents only 15–20% of a developer's day, the highest ROI comes from applying AI beyond the IDE to documentation, security, and product discovery. - With token costs for some engineers already hitting 25% of their salary, orgs are treating AI spend like infrastructure by forecasting, budgeting and building it into resource planning before it scales further. - As the codebase context problem arrives, leaders are investing in living documentation and repository context to counter growing MR sizes and shrinking review depth. Another thank you to Bruno Passos, Pedro Silva, Adrian Spender and Micaela Stump for sharing what’s working and what you’ve learned.

"From AI Experiments to Organizational Shift: Lessons from Mercari’s Transformation" Over the past year, Mercari has moved beyond simple code generation to an AI-first transformation by transitioning from isolated prototypes to integrated multi-agent development systems. Michael Galloway and Snehal Shinde will be joining us at DX annual to discuss: - Why measuring AI impact is harder than expected - How they track behavioral, workflow, and system-level change - How they’re evolving toward an AI-first PDLC with guardrails, not gates

We’ve launched the ability to run cohort analyses in DX — a new report that lets you compare how engineering metrics change across developer cohorts. Cohorts can be based on any characteristic that you set. For example: a developer’s team, role, tenure band, or region; or their AI tool usage, tech stack, or language.  This report can help teams: - Compare performance across segments - Evaluate the impact of changes (a new process, tool, or organizational change) - Identify areas for investment - Benchmark against the industry Learn more: https://lnkd.in/g9-QSrZU

As AI systems grow more autonomous, the role of the software developer is being fundamentally redefined. Jennifer St Pierre will be joining us at DX Annual 2026 to discuss how Dell is evolving software engineering organizations for the agentic era. Jennifer’s session will cover: - How Dell redesigned roles and workflows to transition from code-centric teams to AI-augmented engineering organizations. - How they developed the technical and behavioral skills required to ensure strategic alignment and operational discipline. - How they foster a culture for responsible experimentation and innovation while building a clear future-state vision. Why aren’t AI productivity gains higher? We recently shared data showing that current productivity gains from AI in engineering are more modest than many headlines imply (gains of 10%... not 10x). To better understand why, we’ve been interviewing developers across a range of companies about their experiences. What we’re hearing: - Coding isn’t the main bottleneck - Partial SDLC automation creates new bottlenecks, so AI gains cap out - Social friction is a barrier to adoption - Tooling and skill gaps are limiting gains - Most AI tools lack important context https://lnkd.in/gx2gV8pB

“Beyond the CLI: Agentic AI for Async Workloads and Non-Developers” At DX Annual 2026, Airbnb’s Madison Capps and Christopher Sanson will be giving a talk on how they are expanding agentic AI beyond the IDE to rethink the entire software delivery lifecycle. Chris and Madison will share how Airbnb is extending the impact of agentic AI to solve the bottlenecks that emerge as coding accelerates. They will cover: - How Airbnb brought agentic tooling to PMs, data scientists, and designers to remove underserved bottlenecks across the SDLC. - How they moved beyond synchronous copilots to agents that autonomously handle migrations, test generation, and bug triaging in the background. - The foundational infrastructure required to support background AI workloads at scale.
