The decentralized energy company
About us
Daylight is the decentralized energy company, built for the people who power it. We transform everyday homes into mini power plants, helping families lower their energy bills, stay powered during outages, and earn rewards for supporting a more reliable grid. As the energy system strains to meet growing demand, Daylight sends excess energy from homes back into the system, reducing pressure on aging infrastructure and reinforcing local resilience. With seamless home upgrades, an intuitive energy management platform, and a growing decentralized network, Daylight is building the future of energy from the ground up. Backed by leading investors including Andreessen Horowitz and Framework Ventures.

The automobile. The internet. Space travel. America is no stranger to being a global leader in innovative new technologies. China may have a head start with deploying new solar capacity, but the race is far from over. To narrow the gap, we need a sweeping, bottom-up movement of distributed energy resources. Daylight is how we equip homes with the tools to join this nationwide effort.

Since the popularization of AI models, the availability of high-end processing chips was the primary bottleneck in scaling data centers. The countries and companies with access to chips began to break away from the pack. That is all beginning to change. Energy has now started to scale faster than transistors, and the power needed to operate data centers and process user queries is becoming the number one constraint to scaling AI. It’s going to be a big century for the electron.

Energy is the new oil. The winners of the AI race will be determined by who has access to electrons, and who can scale capacity fastest. Daylight co-founder Jason Badeaux argues that distributed energy generation is the cheapest and fastest way to meet demand that is increasing exponentially.

The grid is faltering. Demand is rising. AI is only accelerating the pressure. The answer isn’t always building bigger. It’s building smarter by starting at the edge and using a resource that exists already: our homes. At Daylight, we’re proving that distributed energy, coordinated with the right incentives, is the fastest path to scaling reliable, resilient infrastructure. Proud to be featured in Crunchbase News as part of the wave of startups rethinking how power is produced, shared, and valued. #Energy #Solar #CommunitySolar #Innovation #Grid #Renewables https://lnkd.in/ea4scnEU

Civilization runs on supercycles. Most people don’t notice them until the shift is underway. We’re entering one now. Electricity demand is rising faster than utilities can respond. EVs, data centers, and electrified homes are reshaping when and where power is needed. At the same time, outages are increasing and infrastructure is falling behind. These aren’t isolated problems. They’re signals of a system no longer built for what it’s being asked to do. In our latest blog, we explore why this moment looks familiar, what the early signs of the next supercycle reveal, and why energy is at the center of it. https://lnkd.in/eM3swc-U

The nature of energy is changing. Demand is greater than ever, and we don’t just need increased capacity. We need power that arrives faster, is located closer to home, and gets allocated more intelligently. Distributed energy resources are the only way we can rise to meet this challenge. https://lnkd.in/epcWZ7AM

We’ve raised $75 million to expand the Daylight network and accelerate the shift toward a grid that meets the demands of the world we live in now. → $15M equity led by Framework Ventures, joined by a16z crypto, M13, Escape Velocity (EV3), Lerer Hippeau, Room40, Crucible Capital, Coinbase Ventures, and Not Boring Capital → $60M project finance facility led by Turtle Hill Capital This capital allows us to bring more homes online, strengthen our financial protocol DayFi, and push forward a distributed energy model that scales with demand. We’re building a grid that’s resilient, affordable, and community-owned. And we’re just getting started. https://lnkd.in/eyFgVEsJ
